Dat clutch team
Costa Rica wasn't even mentioned in the the first 4 pages of this thread probably even more if I keep checking (actually it was and poster predicted they would finish the group with 0 points)
How we all underestimated them

Just realised Keylor Navas is Costa Rica's goalkeeper. Good luck penetrating him

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
It's a catch 22 situation for me. I have had a soft corner for Italy for many years but if they go through then the world cup sees no more of Luis Suarez. Who do I root for?
BTW amidst all the praise that Suarez is getting let's not forget to mention how well Edinson Cavani played. He assisted the first goal so well and did really good defensive work at times during the match.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Well, for Germany it would be the most favourable outcome if Italy go out. Then two of our major road blocks work be eliminated without us having to run into them. ^^

I think Italy can only play Germany in the final this time.

You know what. I had the very same thought. Spain are out. If Italy are also out then Germany become the favourites almost by default. Maybe only Brazil can stop them then.

No Italy is likely to come 2nd in group D and Germany is likely to come 1st in group G. Hence their most likely meeting point is the semi final. Before that Italy may have to face Brazil in the quarters though.

I assumed Italy & Germany would finish top of the group. There is still a decent chance that England will beat Costa Rica and Italy will beat Uruguay.

Yes because if Uruguay go through the two South Americans could meet in the quarter final. Not sure if it will be at the Maracana though but if it is I can only imagine the furore in the world media.

It's possible of course. It would then come down to goal difference. Costa Rica's currently stands at 4-1 and Italy's at 2-2. It's a difference that can be made up because Costa Rica could run out of steam and Italy could beat an over aggressive Uruguay who know they have to win while Italy only need a draw.
Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Well, as Italy know how to grind out results, I would expect them to hold onto a draw against Uruguay at least, but I think the English team is so low on self-esteem by now while Costa Rica ride an unprecendeted high, that I expect Costa Rica to win. So it will likely be Costa Rica going through as first and Italy as runner-up.

Yeah it's a shame his lack of defensive work has limited him to a mediocre career.

Because the English "number of sprints" performance data tracking system has worked extremely well over the last half century.
Sprinting is not part of Pirlo's role in the team ffs.
