Sterling really is a fantastic player.
Barkley too, plus he will improve immensely after his move to Bayern
Some great youngsters growing there.
Italy though will always be cynical m-fs who know how to win better than the rest of us.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
One of these games that Pirlo makes me both excited and melancholic whilst watching him play .
So effortlessly , so elegant and sure with the ball at his feet , delivering fine passes and amazing long balls anywhere on the pitch , starting stuff here and there between opponents , almost always walking the pitch seeking for the ball and the next immaculate pass... All so calculated and precise .
Once again we were in awe of his quality , in awe after all these years damnit! Then he does that free kick , right before the game ends.
Hart never saw it coming , unlucky for Italy and Pirlo it did not result in a goal . Damnit Pirlo . Overall a very nice game . Both teams tried to be as precise and effective as they could be , knowing that each mistake would cost dearly. Sometimes they were extra carefull , especially Italy , but you can't fault them for that when they handled it so well. I liked Darmian and Candreva very much . England i thought relied too heavily on Sterling and he was exhausted later on.. to the point he couldn't contribute more. Rooney , meh.. Sturridge and Sterling , Barkley and Lallana , i was impressed. I am sure England will do well , at least as far as the group stage goes.

England had nothing left after 65 minutes. They just gave up. Thought they really should have gone for it and get some strikers in the box. Rooney is wasted on the flanks although he did do that beautiful cross to Sturridge with his weak foot.
Pirlo's free kick Hart was completely clueless.

Really disapointed by the efforts put by Rooney , Gerrard and Johnson.
Had it been sturidge in that very same scenario that rooney was in, he would have gotten the goal.
Also, there has got to be better rightbacks out there then freakin Glen Johnson.

I found England to look clueless - yet there seems to be a lot of Talent and I think in the EURO 2016 this team will be a huge factor. For this WC though they seem not yet ready. I found Rooney disappointing. I thought a couple of times, had some one else from the team had this chance we would be looking at a differnt score right now.
Very pleased by Pirlo and overall the italian team did not bore me as they do most of the times.

I'm already trembling like leaf, and throwing up periodically, in anticipation of us one day maybe having to face a Milan team led by the devil incarnate, He who shall not be named, Pippo

Both teams were practically finished after 70-75 minutes. The amount of mistakes, passes misplaced etc in the last 10 minutes was inredible, as was recognizable the fact that neither team could capitalize on even the most dangerous errors as they were both just too exhausted.
The humidity, apparently.

Nah , Pippo will have a lot to prove as a coach first , before he comes to challenge this Bayern . There's also that slight difference in quality between our teams these days , merely a few light years i'd say , but we'll catch you one day

Ye
Granted, you're pretty run down as a club, but that won't matter; even if we will only meet you with Pippo, the demon face, in a preseason friendly at the Audi or Haribo cup, this will likely result in us afterwards sitting in the shower, crying.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Great victory , perfect matchday if I consider also the defeat for Uruguay , I couldn't ask of better
I criticize often Prandelli before of tournaments, but then you can immediately to watch his stamp
nothing to see with useless friendly matches , When the going gets tough, Italy geys going
It was the best match of this WC also for merit of England, it has really an interesting future if it will be developed by a good manager, and probably it was amusing also for demerit of both the defences tbf, both scrub today
on the other hand , if we compare with past Italy and England defences ...
My prediction on thread " predict the score" before of the match

Rooney, Gerrard and Johnson will be the downfall of this England squad.
Baines was bady exposed.
Sterling was amazing- MOTM. Sturridge and Welbeck had good games.
Pirlo is a genius.
It was an even match that could have been a draw.
I'm quite confident England will progress

We did very well considering:
1) No Buffon
2) Decimated defense
3) We are traditionally slow starters

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
A very good game of football, although I'm disappointed at the result. Also the conditions started to hamper the players a little in the 2nd half.
Italy defended well and wisely, but I was also disappointed that England's answer at 2 - 1 down was mostly to dribble at the Italian defense when counter-attacking became impossible. Carroll would have been perfect for that situation, but since he wasn't picked, should have brought on Lambert to play target man. Crossing was hopeless and there were no second balls to attack for England. At 2 - 1, England made it all too easy for Italy to defend well.
I thought Glen Johnson had a good game, not understanding the criticism. Provided a very good outlet for getting forward at the right flank and worked tirelessly even in those conditions. Didn't get humiliated in defense, either. I suppose people think the right-back should have been the one to score the equaliser, then.
Baines was mostly at fault for the 2nd goal, let Candreva behind him just like that. What a cross that was, though, inch perfect.
I thought Gerrard played all right and the way that was always expected, don't really understand criticising him, either.
Rooney did OK, great cross for Sturridge's goal, but at times it just looks like he doesn't gel with the other attacking players, that they would play better with a different kind of player, at least if Wayne's being played on the wing.
Pirlo was just as brilliant as you could have expected him to be. That free-kick was outrageous.
A positive performance by England, just need to be more versatile in attack when counter-attacking isn't an option. Still hopeful they'll go through.

If anyone can find a gif of Pirlo's free-kick (preferably from a backside angle where you can really see the curve) and a gif of Rooney's corner for comparison, that'd be great.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Well the mighty Ox is back next game *touch wood*
As for Rooney... Maybe a trio of attacking mids in sterling, rooney and ox will bring the best out of him.
I think it may have been an error in judgment for Roy to not change things up with Italy clearly stacking their right hand flank, yet he left Rooney on the left who was often found wanting and leaving Baines to pick up the pieces. No coincidence that the winning goal came down our left flank.
Although people have reservations about playing him in the hole, I think we would be better to try;
- Ox - Rooney - Sterling
Not that Welbeck was poor today - in fact he surprised me.
Anyway not meant as criticism, I am still happy with the way we played and am pretty confident we couldve beaten most teams in this world cup with that same performance and put us in with at least a chance against sides of Italy's level. That's all we can ever have really hoped for.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Despite the result i thought we played really well and just lost to a better team.
Saw a lot to be positive about and don't think i'd change a thing. Sterling was great and glad Roy picked him, Rooney out left isn't that great for him as an individual but better for the entire balance of the team IMO.
I was quite pessimistic going in as i thought we would see Gerrard and Henderson and Rooney behind Sturridge leading to a massive gap between Gerrard and the rest which wasn't the case.
Confident that we'll win the next two games and get through the group, after that who knows.
Also i told y'all Uruguay are average cack

even tho we lost, that was the most promising England attacking performance i've ever seen in a major tournament
Euro 2016
if these attackers had prime Terry-Rio partnership
Henderson and Sterling were motm for me
Welbeck played well considering all the shit everyone gives him
seems Roy might have a slight clue what he's doing
