No, it wasn't during his Madrid years.  He went to Madrid at the age of 30.  Here are his highlights in one tournament....  Euro 2000.  He was 28.

When you think that entire highlight reel came from a total of 5 games he played in that Euro 2000.  Best games were in the elimination rounds... Spain, Portugal and Italy.  I think he played his best game ever against Portugal for NT:

Beast of a player. The thing I loved the most about him is that he didn't slow down counters. Even when you thought he took one too many touches he never slowed the teams on the break. Can't say the same about the midfielders over the last decade.

Don't know why he wasn't French player of the year that year. Henry was great for us tat year and scored a lot of great goals, but still surprising he won it
