yes volante is not used in Italy as term....maybe this is what we call " mediano" ( =DM) ? or mezz ala ( internal midfielder ) ?

Enganche is basically TQ, it means "to hook together" and referred to the playmaker. Riquelme and Maradona were both called enganches.

Volante is used in spanish to refer to any midfielder, usually out wide if used alone (DMs are called pivotes, like in English, or just 5s, although sometimes the term "volante de contencion" can be used). Not sure if the use is any different in Brazil.

then i think volante is a very south american term. From my experience with spanish medias, i can't recall them using "volante" to describe outfielders.

Yes that sounds correct, although you'll find that it varies significantly from country to country. In argentina it's very common to just call each position by the numbers, which are different numbers in Brazil.

Argentina:

1-GK
2-CB
3-LB
4-RB
5-DM/CM
6-CB
7-Winger (right)
8-Winger (right)
9-CF
10-CAM
11-CF/Winger

Of course this doesn't always apply in reality because you would have to play like a 4-3-1-2 to match perfectly but if you say 4 it's understood to be RB by nearly everyone, and likewise with the defensive ones, the 5, 9 and 10.

kovacic looks a good back up for modric and can give him plenty of rest, i just hope if he is meh for a couple months, he gets the same treatment as other players(he won't ).

I don't know what is the best ( or worst ?.) deal tbh , Kondogbia performed in Champions League against Arsenal etc surely they are 2 different players , he would have kept both if he could , but he can't for FFP.
Other clubs can keep him as 6th CM, a beautiful sport

well, Mancini is the club manager, he knows the finances of the club well, he knew what he was doing from day one. Sure he would have loved to get both in a perfect universe, but he knew it would come down to this.

Kovacic comes in as Modric immediate understudy and back up. We have no other player in the squad that's like Modric so it's a smart move. Modric is growing older and his fitness is in question moving forward.

Ladst season we had no one at the club like Casemiro and Kovacic, they will be huge help.
