Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti believes the Champions League triumph can start an era of dominance for Los Blancos.

The Italian guided Real to their tenth European title last Saturday with a 4-1 win over city rivals Atletico Madrid, ending the 12-year wait for La Decima.

Now that his side have tasted victory in the biggest club competition, Ancelotti told Gazzetta dello Sport, he thinks there is enough potential in this Real team to allow them to keep winning titles for the foreseeable future

“I’m well aware of the importance of this victory. I’m also aware that this victory can open an important cycle here. This team has just started to win, we are full of youngsters, talent and will. “

The ex-AC Milan coach also underlined the importance of the Champions League and the weight that has been lifted off Real’s shoulders by finally winning the tenth,

“When I signed for Madrid, I had a very clear idea that the Champions League trophy was the primary aim of the club this season. This is not just for us but for other top teams, the (domestic) league comes second. But considering this was going to be the club’s 10th (European title), it was worth double.”

The victory on Saturday saw Ancelotti draw level with Liverpool legend Bob Paisley as the only managers to have won three European Cups, the previous two were won with AC Milan, while he also won two as a player. However, the former PSG boss knows the environment he’s in and isn’t getting ahead of himself,

“It’s nice to achieve records. But the reality is a different issue. It’s not as if these numbers guarantee your future. If at the start of next season I lose two games I will be in trouble, hence, I’m calm.”
