Terrtle match for Alves, especially the first half, he was nowhere to be seen defensively. All their chances came from the right and every time they got to Bartra. Likewise on the second goal why the hell did Adriano just idly watch rather than press? They had 2 good chances and scored on both.

Well it's not a surprise when it's been the conservatism, predictability, bore me to death football that has been killing the team, two years already. As soon as Cesc brought different approach Villarreal didn't know what to do, and Barca started to mentally move better.

Re: Barcelona - Villareal
Other than the last assist, fair play to Fabregas (though the chip by Busquets was better lulz), I can't remember him doing anything. More than anything it was just the momentum switch of scoring that first goal. Which was demoralizing for Villareal especially because it was an own goal, and inspiring for Barca because we were back in it.
Or the whole team was lifted by Cesc coming on
I favor the former.
No player should be commended though. I can't think of a single player who played well. There were some that were OK, but none that played well. Most were awful.
Worst of all are the crosses. I can't stand them anymore. We are so clueless up front, and I don't know, is someone telling Alves to cross this much? He's never crossed so much as now. Perhaps it's a byproduct of how clueless we are up front. Defensively . The midfield doesn't control like we once did either.
So lucky to win.

Re: Barcelona - Villareal
Fabregas never was a problem.some hater invented that and after every lose you need someone to blame. Untill now you believed that it was Fabregas. Now you see that it was not him. It was Xavi who does nothing special, i mean absolutely nothing unexpected. Predictable side passes all the game
Fabregas has that special skill,he can do unexpected. Him being slow is the problem in some games. But he still more useful than average Xavi who does nothing more than mascerano. In attack around the box he is the most useless player. Alves crosses better than him, iniesta and messi dribbles better than him, pedro, alves, messi shoots better than him. Cesc and messi does better through balls than him (Xavi is afraid to try his only special skill), even Cesc shoots better than him
So whats special about him and why he gets more time than Cesc?

Re: Barcelona - Villareal
lol guys this is just knee-jerk. correlation but not causation. Fabregas came on and he was quite involved, but the whole team seemed to be fighting very hard. To put the blame on Xavi and praise Fabregas is not accurate.
We did play an intense 2nd half though, even though we struggled to break through and had to rely on two own goals. Makes me wonder why we couldn't do it against other teams.

Please find my million quotes where I tell you that Cesc has always been creating excellent chances for you. Never been a better timing. Even VS. Madrid he created chances and yet the haters manage to hate because he is too "slow"... In the end, he does the one role he is supposed to do which none else manages to do - create goalscoring chances and link plays.

You and me. We 2 always believed in Cesc. Even RG turned his back on him but not me. Whenever folks wanted him sold and replaced by scrubs like Kroos I stood firmly and screamed: "Stahp, guys!"

Re: Barcelona - Villareal
Yes let's attribute 2 own-goals to Cesc, why not?
Cesc had a nice part to play in the third goal but let's not pretend like he was game changing.
Messi had a very imprecise day, although against a worst keeper he would have scored at least one free kick.

They came after Barca started to give more direct pressure and Villarreal started to panic. It would have never happened with ball possession/ safety first attitude.BarrileteCosmico wrote:Yes let's attribute 2 own-goals to Cesc, why not?

What? You are blind. He wasn't at fault, it was Alves (I think that's Alves who's marking the assister at the begining of the play), who wasn't marking the assister correctly or making the offside trap appropiately.
On other matters, the fact that this last two games we've played like shit with Xavi and Iniesta starting and made a comeback with Cesc coming in for Xavi, doesn't mean Cesc is better than Xavi. But it clearly points out that our problems are not mostly Cesc as many said, and it also points out that Xavi-Iniesta midfield is probably not the solution as Fussball (and probably Franchise and Alex and other) was pointing out some months ago before he kneejerked.
Xavi, much to my sadness, is not a deciding player anymore for us. A pity Cesc is not better than him every year after January.

At the end weather he was at fault or not. He made the clearance and we avoided conceding that goal. It deserve praises.

Re: Barcelona - Villareal
Cesc on for Xavi, and helped turn things around, interesting one indeed
I dont think we were all that though, our defense is still quite shit. Nobody track the player for that first goal, its one of those that shouldnt be conceded, we really need to improve in that. Busquets and Alves caught up field and Adriano didnt cover the 2 CBs quick enough who had to face the other 2 players leaving the midfield runner in free, no one in midfield track him too.
We were quite lucky for the 2 OGs. The Messi goal was nice one though, loved Busquets' pass! Good to see MEssi score finally.
I think we are still not there even attackjing side, lucky Villarreal's center was a bit soft, otherwise we probably would have lost.
We still look far from our best obviously....

Re: Barcelona - Villareal
Like are yall really serious?
You think this game proves anything?
If ever did a game prove nothing, it was this one. The team clearly playing through swirling emotions of the loss of Tito but at the same time trying to win a game which ultimately means nothing because we cant win anything.
And this is the game you chose as a demonstration of Cesc's "brilliance"
I thought Futbol was just having a bit of fun and playing around, but yall actually are serious?
Who knew some basic headed assist would create such lunacy.

I don't really think anyone is saying much about this game proving anything just the usually Xavi/Cesc banter.
