So who do you guys think killed Joffrey? For the record this is something that is not definitively answered in the books, but there are enough hints between the last two episodes to get the most popular theory if you rewatch some key scenes.
Back in Robert's Rebellion (when the Baratheons overtook the Targaryens) Jaime was a member of the kingsguard, sworn to protect the king. When the former Targ king realized his time was up he ordered the entire city be burned. Jaime decided that rather than let him kill thousands of people he would just end it right there. But he never told anyone this, except Brienne in S3 and perhaps members of his family, so people think he did it to ease the way to power for his father's army.Blue Barrett wrote:Can someone explain something to me, which I've never quite understood.
What's the story of Jaime being the kingslayer? I think I've made effort to know about it but never quite got it. I know he killed the mad king and all but how did that come about and how did he get away with it?

He was in the Kings guard, meaning he was supposed to protect the mad king with his live. When the rebelion broke out with Stark-Arryn-Baratheon stronghold usurping the Mad Kings claim on the throne (because of several reasons but mainly because he was insane and wasn't mentally fit to be king any longer).
Tywin Lannister was reluctant to choose sides until the very end when he realized the rebels were gonna win the battle. He arrived with his army at King Landing's doors but they were locked. Jaime convinced Mad King to open the gates to his father telling him that he was there to help him in the battle, but it turned out he wasn't.
And Jaime basically killed the king stabbing him in the back subsequently when the Lannister army had taken over the castle. That's basically the gist of it.

McAgger that's not correct, it was Pycelle that convinced Aerys to open the gates, not Jaime.

IMO Jaime did the right thing. The Mad King was insane. He was worse than Joffrey.
But being a kingslayer is considered one of the worst sins next to kinslayer. That's why people hate Jaime outside his family.

Definitely not Tyrion of course.
Don't think it's Oberyn, too cliched and don't believe killing Joffrey in that way would be his first move on the Lannisters.

Speaking of which
Pycelle has always been Cersei's dog but now she is favouring Qyburn over him

What I love, is how there's so many suspects for Joffreys death at the wedding
Sansa went under the table and gave the cup to Tyrion
The old Tyrell woman (Margery?) has to be a suspect
Oberyn came to the city and has been making subtle threats in like every scene he's been in
Perhaps the Joffrey dwarf impersonator got a lust for power and done it himself

Yeah read it a while ago so don't remember exactly. And your definitely correct. Jaime killed mad king because he was gonna burn the whole city because he thought he wouldn't get hurt being the blood of the dragon and what not. But obviously not a lot of people know that outside of those that Jaime had told.

Oberyn makes the most sense but you are right about it being too cliched. Also Oberyn seems like a man who rather fight 1 on 1 than using poison.
Olenna is pure wicked. From head to toe. You can just tell by her face lmao. Maybe she did it but how? she was nowhere near Joffrey all night.
Sansa?

My money is on Cerci, as stupid as it may sound. I think her original intention was to poison Margaery. But then she got more than she bargained for by framing Tyrion, as he took the cup from Maragaery's table, and establishing herself as queen by killing Joff (Which was unintentional).
Just my stupid crazy theory

Possible. She never really grieved her son that much, 5 seconds after he was dead she was getting Tyrion carried away.

Forgot about that. Does Sansa have it in her to do such a thing?
This is what she has to say to Joffrey (pic not a spoiler)

I wouldn't rule out Jaime either. He's already killed one king Makes sense with his new good guy character ending an evil king.

Half the people near Joffrey at the wedding had a reason to kill him
I doubt it'll be an obvious one. So my money is NOT on Oberyn and definitely not on Tyrion
Maybe Joffrey poisoned himself because You Obviously Love Owls and all dat

Also a question
If Margery (Tom the old lady is Olenna, Margery is the one getting married to Joffrey) became the queen after getting married to Joffrey.
Isn't she the one in power and not Cersei? I mean she is Joffrey's widow. Or that doesn't matter in Westeros?

Well Oberyn is a well known poison specialist. Wouldn't put it past him.
- Explanation (no spoilers beyond this episode):
- But you're correct, most people think it was Olenna. In the last episode she looked over many gorgeous necklaces and thought them shit, yet in this episode she stopped to admire Sansa's much more modest one. And there's a stone missing from it after she looks at Sansa's. Later, before Joffrey dies, he gives his cup to Margery, who then places it right next to Olenna, before Joffrey asks for his cup once again. So she had motive (Joffrey would make life for her granddaughter hell, if not kill her), opportunity (the cup being next to her) and the means (poison).
Not only that but by doing it this way she casts doubt on Tyrion (motive, the poison was on his wife's necklace) and Oberyn (hates lannisters, specialist in poison), who would be the more likely suspects.

Well she can't stay Queen, the next successor becomes king. And the successor is Tommen. And Tommen doens't have a wife or is of age to rule. So mother back at the top of the food chain.

"It is not a question of wanting. The throne is mine, as Robert's heir. That is law. After me, it must pass to my daughter, unless Selyse should finally give me a son. I am king. Wants do not enter into it. I have a duty to my daughter. To the realm. Even to Robert. He loved me but little, I know, yet he was my brother. The Lannister woman gave him horns and made a motley fool of him. She may have murdered him as well, as she murdered Jon Arryn and Ned Stark. For such crimes there must be justice. Starting with Cersei and her abominations. But only starting. I mean to scour that court clean. As Robert should have done after the Trident."
