Roma VS Udinese game thread

AS Roma fight to keep the second place/straight CL spot continues with an important match against zebrette. Roma heading into the game without 3 key players , strootman as his injury news was a huge below to the team and De Rossi on second match of his 3 ban and Maicon . In the left back that has been troublesome for a while we have 2 options with dodo return and the 4rth Roman kid romagnoli who made some spotlit with his simple but precise performances . In the other hand the midfield that was strongest part of 3 is looking questionable. In the absence of strootman and De Rossi even with all effort from Taddei, Roma suffered a narrow defeat against Napoli , will garcia use Florenzi in midfield or he has some other plans ?. in the bright side we have Totti back for the game and i cant think of any other news but that to make my day better .However Napoli will play earlier in the day and if they win they will be tied with us so we have to go out looking for the win for sure. We must secure automatic qualification to CL if we are to secure pjanic to an extension because if we make it just to qualification stage, then there is no guarantee.

Ljajic doesn't play for the team and doesn't help defensively . This game is so important that i do not want to see him unless we go up by two or something

Totti is expected to not only return to full fitness for this game, but to start it as well. That's automatically relegates Ljajic and Bastos to the bench. Word has it that Rudi is either going for the 4-2-3-1 with a Taddei/Pjanic-Nainggolan pivot behind a trio of Totti, Florenzi and Gervinho supporting Destro.

Could also see a 4-3-1-2 with Taddei - Nainggolan - Pjanic midfield, Totti in the hole behind Destro and Gervinho.

I personally think that 2nd one suits us a bit better.

For those wondering, Florenzi doesn't get midfield starts because Garcia does not consider him defensive enough.

I wrote about this in the General Section, since their first 11 games (all wins) Roma has been pretty average. What happened!!!

As with most teams at Roma's level....injuries happened. Losing Totti and Gervinho the first time we played Napoli resulted in that long run of draws culimating up to the loss to Juve. We then lost Totti again along with Balza, Dodo and a half-fit Pjanic....this led to a loss of creativity which led to less impressive wins and draws, culminating in the loss to Napoli in the Coppa and then again in the league while losing Strootman for the season, the summer and practically the first half of next season.

See the pattern here?....injuries happened to this Roma side. Without them, we'd be right there with Juve, if not above them.

humm...I thought Roma had enough depth. Off-course depth players can't perform at same level as Totti (even at his age), Pjanic or Strootman; but it sounds they were seriously inadequate. I thought mid-field is one place where we are loaded.

Winger: Gervinho, Ljajic, Bastos

The only real depth we have is at CB considering that Castan and Benatia have been fairly ever-present. We have zero at LB and little at RB. We're hurting the most in both spots.

Midfield is only minor considering we have 2 out, but any more than that and it becomes a bigger problem.

Another winger wouldn't go a miss as Bastos or Ljajic may not stay. Plus Gervinho in prone to injuries at the worst of times.

Up top, we definitely need at least 1 more striker...if not 2 to really have some depth here. A top striker and maybe an up-and-comer would be enough.

In the summer our priorities should be Cerci, a solid defender to add competition to Castan, maybe Vertonghen, and wingbacks, possibly Santon and/or Debuchy. Everything else would be luxury buys and added depth. This of course is with the assumption that the squad remains intact.
