Arsenal Vs Sunderland
Saturday 22nd February: 15:00 BST
Emirates Stadium
Referee: Andre Marinner
Back to the Premier League
After our mixed results in the FA Cup and the Champions League, we return to the Barclays Premier League action with a home match against Sunderland. The FA Cup match against Liverpool was a good result but the Champions league match against Bayern wasn't. However there was a lot of positive to take from it. Our performance in the 1st 15 minutes was so good that if we play like that in the rest of our PL games, we will be pretty alright. But obviously playing to that constant level is extremely difficult however the promise we have had is pretty positive. So back to the PL for a bit. Sunderland at home should be straight forward but they are in good form so can't take anything for granted.
Rotation
I think we will see a lot of rotation. Podolski is certain to start along with Arteta. Rosicky will most likely start at RW. A lot of guys deserve a rest after the midweek frustration. Monreal will continue at LB with Gibbs out. Interesting to see who starts upfront though. I'd personally stick with Sanogo but 3 games in 7 days might be too much for him.
Team News
Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs will miss the visit of Sunderland with the hamstring injury he picked up during the defeat by Bayern Munich. Olivier Giroud is expected to return to the side after the striker was rested for their Champions League match.
Striker Steven Fletcher could return for Sunderland after missing the last three games with an Achilles injury. Defender Carlos Cuellar may also feature after a hip problem, but Wes Brown is suspended.

Match Facts (BBC)
Head-to-head
- Three of the last five league meetings at the Emirates between these sides have ended in a goalless draw.
- Sunderland have won just one of their last 20 league games against Arsenal. The last time they won at the Gunners in the league was in November 1983.
Arsenal
- Arsenal have 56 points from 26 Premier League matches this season - eight points fewer than at the same stage when they last won the title in 2003-04.
- Arsene Wenger's side have not conceded at the Emirates Stadium for five league matches. They have kept nine clean sheets at home this season, more than any other team in the division.
- They have gone on to win all 10 league games in which they have been leading at half-time, the best record in the league.
- The Gunners have failed to score in the first half in their last six Premier League home matches since Nicklas Bendtner's goal in the second minute of the 2-0 win over Hull City on 4 December.
Sunderland
- Sunderland have gone six successive away matches without defeat for only the second time in the Premier League. The previous occasion was between August and November 1999.
- Gus Poyet's side have kept four clean sheets in those last six away matches.
- They have only lost two of their last 10 league games (W4, D4, L2), with both defeats coming at home against Hull and Aston Villa.
- As a player for Chelsea and Tottenham, Poyet was never on the winning side in 11 Premier League matches against Arsenal (D6, L5).
Final Words
Please keep it straight forward.

Re: Arsenal Vs Sunderland
Great work RG
They have cup final next
can see them come to implement their defensive tactics for City game
so their new Arg defender that is yet to adapt to physicality of PL may start
+
i can see they set their midfield triangle set up to match ours and frustrate us
i would say
-Wing it
Rest Mesut&Chambo
Serge and Poldi either side
and 2 Big men up top and Bombard them

It will give us a great opportunity to see whether we can play in a certain way against Manchester City.

Great work, RG.
Hope to see Podolski in the lineup along with Rosicky. Every 3 points are crucial, it's getting to be that time where every PL match is a cup final.
Hope the lads will be inspired as Dennis watches from the crowd. Cannot wait to see that statue unveiled

Great Job RG.
No excuses, we must give them a good beating, but I take a 1-0 now.
Giroud is well rested? now lets see what he can do.

Re: Arsenal Vs Sunderland
The only real question about this game is how much padding Arsenal will pick up for their goal difference.

Re: Arsenal Vs Sunderland
perfect first half, can't ask for more. Rosicky's goal was fap worthy. Need more goals in the second half. Hopefully Giroud gets himself a hattrick, would be good for his confidence

Hopefully Giroud gets his hat-trick early on in the 2nd, and then Sanogo can come on and get a few himself.
