With drogba? probably not as he was the guy in the team with a parked plane.guest_07 wrote:Donuts wrote:any player with sheer strength, so Drogba is a good example

just a thought though strength is the most useful attribute against teams that just sit back as you could just pass to the wings and cross nonestop until it goes in, not like the other team is going to attack, as-well as corners.
Dribbling is nice but most of the time it only really produces a foul inside the box or a deflection against a defender.
Even then the most notable dribblers against those teams are legends like Messi etc etc which do not come by ever so often.
the practical strategy is get someone like Drogba or Lukaku and just cross, hence why Barcelona struggles as our team only has small guys.

Juninho and all you need is at least one player who can dribble well enough to draw some fouls in decent positions.

Re: the best offensive player vs parking the bus team
Depends on what you mean by 'park the bus', do you mean teams who put most of there men behind the ball? If so it has to be Messi, he's been dealing with that since like 2009 and has still managed to score 250 goals in these 4-5 years

Messi is so fast, so strong on the ball, so intelligent in his distribution and his running that Barça's whole game has suddenly switched from getting it to Ronaldinho to getting it to Messi. Something always happens. The outrageous left-footed chip that left Cech standing and bounced off the bar was just the icing on the cake.
Chelsea, with possibly the best defence in Europe, simply couldn't cope with him.

That's 18 year old Messi and prime Ronaldinho against Mourinho's Chelsea.

Re: the best offensive player vs parking the bus team
The thing is, Messi has played 99% of his games with Barcelona against teams defending with numbers. No one has the ability to dribbler, assist or finish against these teams like Messi.
Even against Chelsea, he's dribbling and final passes were great but he wasn't lucky with his finishing,
But as we all already know, the general STUPID opinion of most Messi haters [if he doesn't score in a certain game = he flopped]. When in these games he has been as good as any world class play maker in the world [example: Iniesta].

is this criteria (excellent vs ptb team), can give a huge advantage to the player that master it when comparing with other player?

I think if you have a thread with the words 'best' and 'player' in it, you're bound to have barca fans swarming in to post replies with the word 'messi' in it

Re: the best offensive player vs parking the bus team
I don't see how Messi should be a candidate. What about all the times Barca struggled vs ptb teams? The player should be someone who's good at heading/strong/long shots. Someone like Ronaldo maybe.

Re: the best offensive player vs parking the bus team
I feel messi is a candidate because of his ability to create chances, not just 1 or 2 things. Look at the highlights against chelsea or milan, he is the one with the brilliant passes, wich our strikers did not finish, or with his dribbling: drawwing defenders away from other players.

What is this based on?
I have never seen it work. Its just a theory with no actual examples to look at. Whenever teams park that bus on Madrid, they have sucked.
Anyway, this whole thread is flawed, because nobody has had more chances to impress or fail than Barca players. Meaning directly comparing to players who barely or in some cases ever play against these types of sides makes no sense.

Re: the best offensive player vs parking the bus team
Well, if you look at 2011/2012, then you can comfortably say that neither Bayern nor Barca had a player who could save them against Chelsea. If you look at 2012/2013 and 2013(2014, then it appears as if Bayern managed to overcome this weakness better than Barca. Only problem, though: you can't single out one player who "did it". You can overcome PTB teams only by a team effort.
