I really recommend giving it a try. I didn’t like it at first. Gon didn’t appeal to me as a main character and it took a while before the show really took off, but no other show I’ve watched has come close to the universe that they’ve built for HunterXHunter. The sum of all of it’s parts is really high. It just gets progressively better, the more you watch it. I’m actually jealous that you haven’t done so already.
The Promised Neverland has a dark atmosphere and mystery factor to it that is a bit reminiscent of Attack on Titan. It’s much shorter than hXh, so you might want to watch that one first. I really liked the first season, but I was advised not to watch the second one

Re: Manga and Anime
My year of anime in review:
Stein's Gate: interesting premise, obnoxious lead that eventually grows on you as he matures, nice tight story in a smallish number of episodes. Enjoyed watching but fell short of "one of the best ever" expectations I saw online.
Ippo: I have a feeling I'm way older than the target audience here, but I actually really enjoyed the first half as he built comeaderie with the rest of the gang at the boxing club. Also learned a lot about boxing. Absolutely recommend. In the 2nd half it becomes more of a "beat the next opponent" standard anime and it lost some of the charm.
Delicious in Dungeon: just good fun overall, enjoyed the ridiculous premise and characters.
Haykyuu: surprised at how much I liked it. I grew up loving Slam Dunk and this felt like a Gen Z version of that. Some episodes in the 2nd/3rd seasons were absolutely fantastic. Quality dropped off in the 4th but still enjoyable. Debating between reading the manga or waiting for the movies.

Re: Manga and Anime
regardin haikyuu, please stick with the anime
I watched the anime when there were 3 seasons out and was shocked at how much I loved it, one of my favourite series, then I switched to the manga to finish it and it was kind of a stinker, much more enjoyable as an anime
