I was hoping we'd have signed Silva back in 2010 ahead of Di Maria. Also definitely Aguero in 2011. Yeh was playing for a rival team, but he if the negotiations and everything went well, I could see him moving.

Personal criteria - last five years (so no counting CR7, Ibra, Ribery, Yaya Toure, etc.), and only instances where there was some documented interest or even bids. I have two answers for Arsenal.

1. Mata in 2011. Might have helped prevent the roller-coaster horrors of 11/12 and 12/13.
2. Götze, any of the last few windows before his switch to Bayern.

Plenty of honorable mentions I could name, including most that have already been mentioned for Arsenal.

Oh, and Yann M'Vila.

Benitez wanted him , Mascherano wanted Inter (it was his first choice as he said publicly ...things were different then Proud) , but Inter didn't want to spend that money. :facepalm:
