The Ballon D'Or should be scrapped altogether and redesigned as an award that rewards different positions and for quality and achievements throughout a career rather than a single great season.

I dont know if these are unpopular or not, but for me both are just common sense. Perhaps not totally replacing the ref but I get Tomwin's point

I should elaborate

Extra officials and such should be replaced

The main reff would still be there. But he would look at a video replay before making a major decision I.E Red card, Penalty maybe 2nd yellow.

Linesmen of course would still exist

Although I'm desperate for tecnology, can't use replays for every single incident. But the main game changing ones do need reviewed properly.

Giving penalties due to having a bad angle or caving in from player/fan pressure is amateur stuff.

I dont understand why we just cant have an official behind the scenes who can watch the reply instantly and communicate what actually happened to the ref.

Surely, the refs ego cant be too big to not accept he is wrong.

Football would be so much better for it

Billions of pounds are involved in this sport, and there's such a big margain for human error, bigger than pretty much any other 'big' sport.

Maybe, im not sure what people think of him as a player because rarely is he spoken about as a player. They speak about only one thing.

I think its also naïve to think all bad decisions are errors. Refs aren't saints and I don't see why they should automatically have everyones trust. Just another reason why technology would be good

They used one in the confeds cup and despite the scorelines suggested, they were pretty poor defensively. Got spanked in the final. Spain can't do it without 2 deep players.

That was due to them not pressing properly. They just sat back, especially against Italy, who had comfortable possession for a period of the game.
