Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
Yeah! I watched it a couple years ago. Read like half the book but I was borrowing it from my English teacher and then summer happened so I gave it back and never finished it.
Amazing movie, I haven't seen it for a long time so I might think about watching it again.

Education is certainly one of our biggest exports, I was under the impression it was number one as well but it might be edged out year by year by our mineral exports. Could google it but that would take effort

Only good thing about Canberra is the lack of traffic lights.

"the Big C" - not sure if referring to the TV series or to the size of the roundabouts in Canberra

Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
Roundabouts are more exhilarating, everyone wants to have some action in their everyday lives, signals are just too mundane and you have to wait for god knows how long.
Canberra knows where its at.

All Australian cities have roundabouts, Canberra's are massive though, they're virtually big circular roads in their own right, rather than intersectionsEl Shaarawy wrote:Roundabouts are more exhilarating, everyone wants to have some action in their everyday lives signals are just too mundane and you have to wait for god knows how long.

Sorry to hear CB. Suicide is unfortunately becoming common among teenagers. There were 2 suicides in my city in these past couple of months. Very shocking as a I knew one of the kids and he was a popular kid.CBarca wrote:Someone I know committed suicide. One of my older brothers friends.
Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
My older brother, who is 24. My brother didn't keep in touch with him much anymore, but they were good friends in high school and in recent years saw each other over holidays and such when they were both home. The guy was around the same age as my brother, maybe a bit older, and has a son who is 6,7,8 something like that.
Saw him a lot when I was younger but I have terrible memory so I hardly remember him. He was one of the good guys though. Very nice guy, very smart.
Still not sure what to say, really.

Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
Suicide is the most common external cause of death in those aged 15-24 in Australia. 2nd most is vehicle accidents. I have to know this stuff for an exam I have on Tuesday.

Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
Thats horrible, CB.
On Aus biggest export: It's Metal to China, BHP makes Billions of dollars on their own each year by selling what they own to China, I very much doubt education can out muscle the minerals industry, not much can.

Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
I think it depends if you measure the export in people employed vs. profit. No doubt the mining industry makes more profit, but I think education employs more people and is the no. 1 reason why people come to Australia.
