I don't think that Australians have that mentality at all. We are generally all too willing to make fun of ourselves and realise that we are a tiny part of a huge world. Although most Australians are proud of their nation, we are not particularly nationalistic or patriotic, and certainly not to the extent that Americans are nationalistic and patriotic. When you have "World Series" for sports that only teams from your own country are competing in, that is really exemplary of "the centre of the Earth" mentality.
