Robben wasn't even a factor until late February lol. He was going to get the boot from Bayern because of injuries/meh play... but he finished very strong.

I think Bayern's was more of a team effort. Schweinsteiger, Martinez, Muller, Mandzukic etc.

Messi would have been totally undeserved because he didn't do anything in:

2 CL semi-final legs
1 CL R16 leg against Milan (0-2)
Real Madrid 1-3 in Camp Nou
missed the majority of the quarter finals against PSG

Plus: Since April he's only participated in 29 % of the possible minutes for Barcelona. His only big game performance came against Milan second leg and that's it. Scoring bucketloads against La Liga scrubs doesn't make you European Player Of The Year. It merely wins you the Golden Boot.

And I'm saying this as a Barca supporter.

Like the Ballon D'Or, it's about the best player on the best team despite what the description says...  always been like that unless there's debate about which was the best team OR the player is just not liked by the footy officials for whatever reason.  Bayern was clearly the best team.
