Re: casillas on the bench...again
Iker had regained his starting spot in January. Only reason we bought Lopez was because Iker was seriously injured and out for 2 months... got Lopez as an emergency.
So this whole "teaching Iker a lesson" crap doesn't sit at all.
Besides, after the Euro and until December, CR7, Ozil and Alonso were in as bad form or worse than Iker. Pepe wasn't exactly setting the world on fire either.
Seems like Mou cherry picked the guys he didn't like for "setting an example" in Ramos and Iker.
It was 90% political. Nothing else.

Re: casillas on the bench...again
in between the CLs, there have been uefa cup competition which was highly rated in the past. La Quinta Del Bruite couldnt win the CL, yet they were highly successful, and things were going well around.Blue Barrett wrote:Apart from the period between 97-02, the last time you won it was in the 60's. Football isn't even the same as it was in 2005. I'm talking about right now.Mr Nick09 wrote:Madrid has been drowned in politics for decades yet we won 9 CLs, i dont really see your point.
we are still a successful club, more so than every other. There are no club in football that in the CL every 5 years or so, every club has a periods of high success and then periods in which they struggle more.
And it's odd, because there is no perfect recipe to winning, yet all fans keep acting like there is a perfect model for winning. Well, no there isnt.
dortmund scrapped by offside goals to beat malaga, and their fate changed, all of a sudden they were the great club that did everything right. Those goals are cancelled and history changes. we reached 3 CL semis in the past 3 seasons and we didnt lose because of politics, but because we were coached by a rather limited manager that got outsmarted all 3 times. If we win the CL then despite "bad politics", what do you say.
Chelsea won the CL despite being a dreadful team, maybe that's the right politics of management that led you down that path? i dont think so.
Juventus are a good team, and when they meet an elite european team that they can put on the ropes, we will talk about them because they still have a lot to prove.
the original point was about club mentality yes? Madrid's mentality is very simple, respect the club, respect the traditions the club stand for, and all will go well. Mourinho essentially didnt understand anything madrid was about, and from day one that created conflicts. Going around changing the definition of madridismo and calling fans fake madridistas because they dont support you insulting referees, engineering conflicts between RM-barca and poking a cancer patient is an attitude that will bring success to noone, no where. I would love to see Mourinho trying that at Bayern.

I'm fairly sure the Bayern board wouldn't consider hiring Mou in the first place. They are usually pretty conscious about whether someone fits there or not.Mr Nick09 wrote:I would love to see Mourinho trying that at Bayern.

Wanting to bench a perfectly fine goalkeeper who had a great season with us and is continuing to play well under the goal also the fact that's he's one of our own and madridista but his name isn't Casillas.
I don't understand some people.

Re: casillas on the bench...again
I don't see fans complaining much tbh, they're convinced that Lopez should remain as starter. he's doing so well and there's no reason to bench him. the problem is the powerful media in Spain, they are strongly behind Casillas and will do anything to bring him back to the starting XI.

Casillas should play even if he's on a wheelchair, just sack Ancelloti already, REAL MADRID DONT NEED MILAN'S CRAP.

Re: casillas on the bench...again
This could become a problem for the Spanish national team as well. If Lopez remains the #1 for Madrid for most of the season and actually does well, how will del Bosque justify to continue with Casillas + Valdes + Reina with Casillas as the starter in the World Cup? That would be absurd. On the other hand benching the captain or not picking him at all after everything he has done for Spain would surely disrupt the squad harmony?

Re: casillas on the bench...again
It's all politics. Like 90% of everything at Madrid.
I knew with Ancelotti coming, his first problem (only because of the media) would be the GK situation.

But he also mentioned that Casillas will get an opportunity, whether its the champions league or la liga.
I hope he doesn't bend over for the press.

Iker starting for the champions league.
Ancelotti had his hands tied in this one. If he doesn't play these games the press/fans in madrid could care less about winning or losing.
They just want Iker in goal.

Casillas does need a chance to show whether he's back to his best or not.

who told you ancelotti had hands tied in this one? do you have any kind of info?FalcaoPunch wrote:Iker starting for the champions league.

If Ancelotti was pressured to the extend as you said he wouldnt have played Lopez until now. This is Ancelotti giving a chance to iker, not everything is yellow.
Re: casillas on the bench...again
I don't need info, it's apparent.
Casillas is one of the best.
The press has been going nonstop about Casillas to ancelotti, players of Madrid, players from Spain NT, and hell even fans are chanting his name during training, games, etc
And you think Ancelotti doesn't have his hands tied? Look how Lopez has been playing. I'd want a goalkeeper that's starting and putting great performances in the champions league.
When did we ever rotate with our second gk in actually CL matches? None. (Unless we already qualified, if that)

Re: casillas on the bench...again
Casillas is not Adan or Dudek. He's our best goalkeeper of all time, one of the best ever(if not the best), and arguably the best atm. He's captain and has been saving our asses for nearly 15 years.FalcaoPunch wrote:I don't need info, it's apparent.

Re: casillas on the bench...again
Ancelotti should've allowed Casillas to play the league game and put Lopez in the CL game. I believe RM are playing away at Gala and this being Casillas first official game against strong, tricky Gala side and with your defence at the moment isn't the best idea for both.

But everyone only cares about Casillas playing.
From a footballing point of view, Lopez is on form and performing well, great, amazing, and whatever else you want to call it. So why bench him in one of the most important tournaments that we have been trying to win for so long?

Re: casillas on the bench...again
This is Ancelotti fault here. Casillas at least needs to be given a chance and he should've played him in the league and saved Lopez for CL, but instead he did the opposite and is playing the keeper who hasn't played an official game for Madrid for the past 20-25 games I believe. Maybe Casillas may redeem himself, but I can see this turning a bit ugly tbh.FalcaoPunch wrote:Which is also part of my reasoning.Winter is Coming wrote:Ancelotti should've allowed Casillas to play the league game and put Lopez in the CL game. Re: casillas on the bench...again
just hope we dont concede many goals with Casillas playing, Lopez should start if we see the current form, its that simple, and doesnt matter if hes club captain, legend, president, i dont care, lopez is on form

But this is Madrid and despite us saying that not one player is bigger than the club.
Certain fans are making it seem that way.

Re: casillas on the bench...again
Since Lopez is playing well and Iker is locked in for Spain - I'm just ambivalent as to who plays any given match. Ancelotti should give a thank you call to Del Bosque for giving him the precious gift of time to let this play out.
I criticize Vicente so much about his selection that I forger how gracefully he handles everything else.
