Can they Win?
Do you think Chelsea can win the PL?
This is proof that they can...
Jose Mourinho is back! Chelsea's Manager will give them a boost and they are title contenders.
PL
2005: Won
2006: Won
2010: Won
2004: 2nd
2007: 2nd
2008: 2nd
2011: 2nd
2009: 3rd
2013: 3rd
2014...
They won the CL last year and the EL back in May.
I think...
1 CHE
2 MNC
3 MNU
4 ARS
5 LIV

Re: Can they Win?
As things stand, I don't think so, to be honest. The strikeforce is nowhere near good enough, the only natural holding midfielder in the entire squad is Mikel, and there are questions about the defence, specifically centrally (JT aging, Cahill still alot of questions over, Luiz hot & cold and unpredictable, etc.). Not to mention the fact that the majority of this squad, despite their massive individual and collective potential, is very young and inexperienced at the moment. In a title race, that could prove the difference over the course of a long, 38-game season. Said the same thing last season as well when many were hailing CFC as certain title contenders if not even favourites, and I turned out to be right then too, albeit things transpired to affect the team's fortunes that certainly no one could have predicted.
Now, of course, alot can change with the transfer window still open a few more weeks, but as things stand, I think the best Chelsea can hope for is 2nd. City favourites for me.

Re: Can they Win?
Shed is the reason why I don't post as often as I did back in the days; he usually posts what I'm about to say. (apart from some very stupid comments and stealing Kicky from me)
IMO, the missing piece of the puzzle is still a reliable striker. If we can get Rooney and he can hit the ground running, I'll be confident we could do well. Letting in goals is one thing, but we really need to score more often.
I still think City are the favorites. That said, I think the best we could do (if we go ahead with the current squad) is to hope the EPL inexperienced Pellegrini to mess up somehow. But to screw things up with such a talent diverse squad is near impossible. Yet stranger things have happened..

Precisely what my thinking is as well. Our best chance if were were to keep the current squad (← which is unlikely, I think) would be for Pellegrini to not have a smooth or swift transition into the English game.Soul wrote:I still think City are the favorites. Re: Can they Win?
The thing with the past 10 years is, PL didnt have a Manchester City like it does now. Plus I personally believe that this current Chelsea squad isnt very Mourinho-like, I feel Mou's team should be very physical for it to thrive. And our team isnt really that physical, but is very talented. But I think we still have a high chance of grabbing the title, Im not worried about United, just worried about City.

Nobody stole me from anyone.....
OT: I agree with what has been said but I think we can still win it without Rooney if we have a freak of nature season.

Re: Can they Win?
Its most certainly not impossible, but yea as Shed ruined it for all of us..
Its definitely a top 2 finish IMO. Depends on how Torres and co (assuming that Rooney won't come) deal upfront making it an easy finish or scraping! If Rooney comes, sure he will score goals and will be effective. I'm still Nay on Rooney though lol..
Still I think that if Mou allows the attacking midfield to flow freely, like make Hazard+Mata+KDB ( or whoever plays on the right) , we can overcome the striker problem. All our attacking midfielders can score given enough space. Out set plays are generally good from corners or free kicks as well. Therefore scraping goals and winning matches (which Mou knows how to do) is not a problem. The strikeforce is nowhere near good enough, the only natural holding midfielder in the entire squad is Mikel, and there are questions about the defence, specifically centrally (JT aging, Cahill still alot of questions over, Luiz hot & cold and unpredictable, etc.).
