Actually, both CBs are hurt for the Spurs.  So this CB pairing is the one they will start the season with to start.

Walker and Rose were the fullbacks.

Up front, Paulinho and Bale were the only ones missing, although Bale is not coming back  So really, it's Paulinho. Soldado should be there in a week.

Started with Dembele, Chadli, Sigurdsson, Lennon, Defoe and Parker.

Enough starters there that they shouldn't have gotten raped like that.

Which major clubs overlapped in their friendly match opponents? It would still be overreaction (don't we have a thread for that?) to read anything into preseason at all, but at least looking at results against the same opponents would give some logical basis for the comparisons.

Oh, I am. I even said to take it for what it is in the initial post, I don't think we should read too far into it. But regardless, it's still an impressive stat and an encouraging one. Doesn't have to be a huge positive to be a positive.

Kaboul is out with knee surgery. Dawson and Vertonghen are both injured too. So basically, they have no backup CBs because the two tonight were tooled.

Sandro is also coming off of major knee surgery and won't be there for a while. Parker started almost all of last season. Dembele, Lennon and Defoe were all starters last season. Adebayor was in a rotation with Defoe and was, frankly, atrocious. Walker and Lloris are starters too.

So when you look at it, you have Lloris, Walker, Dembele, lennon and Defoe as returning starters from last year. Then you add that Sigurdsson played a lot and started quite a few games. Chadli is going to be a starter this year no doubt. That's 7 starter level players for Spurs in the first 11.

There's no way that you can say it was a B team. It was a mix. And there's no way they should take 5 goals like that.

Lack of depth is unbelievable and the midfield other than Dembele and the defense are atrocious.
