Talking of Schalke - they tried to get rid of Albert Streit for about 3 or so years until they finally succeeded last season.
but is he unwanted at bayern? you could hardly find a better backup that is completely cool with lahm playing...

Not sure either of those players really count, to be honest.
Downing has only been with the club two seasons and legitimately wanted to try to earn his place in the side... which he did this season. While his performances weren't what most fans were clamoring for he played consistently (due to lack of competition, in part) but he had no real reason to leave the club and managed to convince Rodgers he had/has a place in the squad. I wouldn't be surprised if he's still with us and sees a fair amount of time next season (probably in matches where we're looking to lock things down).
Pacheco just hasn't attracted any interest outside loan moves. No-one wants to buy him, rather than him not wanting to leave.
The only LFC player that comes to mind in recent seasons is Joe Cole, and he even accepted a season's loan before we eventually gave in and paid him a nice fat severance gift to get him out the door.

Re: Unwanted players who don't want to leave their clubs
Downing has constantly stated that he wants to fight for a first-team place, inspite of playing like crap for large periods and showing up for a couple of games. Even Pacheco portrays himself as if he clearly stands a chance to regularly get opportunities for the senior team lol.RedOranje wrote:ExtremistEnigma wrote:Downing, Pacheco..

Yeah, I agree with your first statement but these two are currently the closest players to that. Used to be Joke Hole but he's gone for good.

The main reason we cant sell him to other clubs is because he still think he deserve 10 mill a year salary..not his fault we offered him that type of contract but still a millionaire like kaka should be choosing playing time over sitting in the stands really.
Plus he has been a horrible professional. Club identified his knee injury and allowed a full year to rehab but he masked his injury and played in World cup only to make the injury even worse....really horrible act.
This is the main reason of his failure at RM
Forgot this guy was still around

Re: Unwanted players who don't want to leave their clubs
Kaka what a frustrating player
Destroyed Sarabias, Canales madrid careers only to say "next time will be my year" and do fck all then. He can't say he wasn't given chances because he has and failed to take them. Other clubs have wanted to buy him but his wages have been the obvious obstacle even Adidas refused . The guy has said in many interviews that he wants to play in WC THEN LOWER YOUR FCKING WAGES AND FCK OFFF. You won't get many opportunities with us.

I think so, Contento is a pretty good player too. Plus Badstuber has plyed some LB before.

I'm pretty sure we have been trying to get rid of him for 6 of those 12 months.

Thing is, due to our lack of attacking depth, Downing actually managed to play himself into a starting role. If he's still with the club next summer and still saying the same things while consistently sitting the bench behind newer signings then he'll definitely fit this thread, but for the time being this isn't really the place for him.

Henderson was one. Was nearly forced out to Fulham so we could get Clint Dempsey ffs. Basically changed Rodgers' mind with the performances he put in, thank God.

contento has never shown he can compete at top level and badstuber can be happy if he becomes a top-level professional again. if rafinha was unwanted, he'd already be at schalke now
