Best U21 Euro quote:
Wilfried Zaha: "We didn't expect all that quality."

@Arqui:
You know, there is more to the game of a full back than attacking.
Montoya is an excellent defensive full back that can provide some surprise attacks down the flank. He is a player that has gone against Cristiano Ronaldo two or three games and done well in all of them, hence why he is picked over Carvajal because he is more proven defensively against the very best.
I've only watch 1,5 games of Spain, but IMO Montoya has been impecable and better than Moreno. Whoscored agrees with me rating Montoya as the best RB in the competition until now.
And Nacho is 23 and 1/2!

Re: UEFA U21 European Championships (Israel, June 5th - June 18th)
Montoya is a gem. Most Barca fans actually want him to start ahead of Dani Alves for Barca. He's a bit more defensive-minded and plays like a classical fullback, not like a wingback, but when he picks his moments to venture forward, he does something useful most of the time.

Don't listen to Arq, he doesn't understand fullbacks.

Re: UEFA U21 European Championships (Israel, June 5th - June 18th)
stop kidding yourself free cat. Montoya is picked over the Carvajal because he has seniority over him in the squad. that's how it works in spain teams all the time. Montoya has been with that group longer, where as this is new for carvajal. same thing happened to Azpilicueta when he was with the u21. Doesnt mean Montoya is better or provides something the other cant. Same reason Arbeloa keeps starting, more proven? wat?

Del Bosque (coach ESP): "Montoya and Alba will be ESP's full backs for the future. There are few players like Montoya."
I hope Madrid really play with Carvajal and Marcelo next season. Will be hilarious to watch.

Moreno does both attack and defend something thats quite new to Montoya. Carvajal does both as well
Montoya has only played once against Ronaldo. Carvajal has played the likes of Ribery, Goetze and KDB etc. Montoya is so bad for Barca they use him as a Nacho for them. Mistake after mistake
@futbol. how much chance is there of that quote being made when Montoya was called up to spains senior team when Carvajal was still with castilla
Anyways Alves will be a starter for Barca next season and Carvajal for Madrid. And if he does well he will take Arbeloas place in the National team. Montoya at the age of 23 and a half will still be playing for spain u21 so pipe down yeah

Re: UEFA U21 European Championships (Israel, June 5th - June 18th)
Montoya has played at least twice vs. Cristiano, once in the Supercup and once in the league. Possibly more.
Why you invent stuff like Montoya is bad for us and that he made mistake after mistake? He has been solid always and barely made any mistake. Ask any Barça fan.
Oh, and Montoya was first called up for Spain when playing for Barça B, so it shouldn't be a problem for Carvajal to be called up for Spain while playing for Castilla if he is so frigging good.

Re: UEFA U21 European Championships (Israel, June 5th - June 18th)
montoya and thiago were called up as a reward for winning the euros. and again, that's not an argument for how good he is. he is obviously not a bad player, but he is obviously behind other players like Carvajal and Azpi objectively. whether he manages to start ahead od them is something else. again, Arbeloa is horrible, and so is Albiol yet they play with the NT all the time. Albiol is the 3rd best CB in spain?

Re: UEFA U21 European Championships (Israel, June 5th - June 18th)
Just spitballing here, but would it make any economical sense for Real to spend €4-5 million on a player who is barely getting off the bench at Getafe?
Looking at the situation in those simple, yet true terms; no, I believe, would be the most likely (and quite obvious) answer to that question.

the only time I remember him playing was when adriano got a red. cant remember whether that was the league or supercup
you want me to ask any barca fan??? too bad dani hasn't been online much as of late
I am not saying he is a bad player I did mention he has been solid for u21 a couple of posts back but there are others better than him and rightfully so. Barca B play in Segunda Castilla played in Segunda B. So for ex unless Olivier Torres gets promoted to Atletis first team he as well will never get called up despite being good enough to. Atleti play in segunda b btw

Re: UEFA U21 European Championships (Israel, June 5th - June 18th)
Thanks to my research, I have come to a conclusion regarding Montoya. Montoya has played against Real Madrid twice, but for only 121 minutes. These two matches were:
August 29, 2012: Barcelona are losing 2-0 in the second leg of the Supercopa. Vilanova takes out Sanchez in the 32' and puts in Montoya. This is after Adriano's red card in the 28'. Result: 2-1 loss.
October 7, 2012: Dani Alves comes off with an injury in the 27'. Montoya comes in and plays for the rest of the game. Coincidentally, Cristiano scores in this period. Result: 2-2 draw.

Spain line up:
DeGea; Montoya, Bartra, Inigo, Moreno; Illaramendi, Thiago, Isco; Koke, Tello, Rodrigo
I have a feeling Rodrigo will redeem himself today. He better or he is guaranteed to lose his place in the final if spain make it

Re: UEFA U21 European Championships (Israel, June 5th - June 18th)
Spain very unlucky not to be up front just now, but Bartra looking for a penalty kick there was absolutely laughable. I guess diving and exaggerating has really become a regular training feature at Barca, because anybody coming through their ranks or is signed by them immediately gets on board with the programme.

If spain doesn't score before Half time they should put Morata on. The tournament top scorer doesn't even start in the games.
