Premiership long ball league
I know the long ball is a bit of a marmite subject, it has often been used against me as a insult by Newcastle fans saying we play ugly hoof ball.
But looking at this table the numbers really surprised me, I didn't expect the gap between teams that use it and the likes of City etc to be quite so big.

Re: Premiership long ball league
Do they? they have some balls then....
Because our style of football has been worse than Stoke this season, one of the reasons we struggle for results ( although its not the only reason)
We simply don't have the players for long ball.

If long ball works then might as well use it.

That's the thing, we obviously don't
Everton are a fine example of using long ball to very good effect though.

Use whatever style suits your team. Thats when a managers ability is tested. Pardew is a bonafide failure. Brb having Anita in cm. Brb bypassing mf and hoofing to Cisse who couldnt hold a bottle of water let alone hold up play ...

Re: Premiership long ball league
Cant say I have watched much of Newcastle but I know the times I have and in particular against us the only time they really seemed threatening was the long balls upto Cisse, the ones when he wasn't offside anyway.
Nearly caught us out a couple of times him getting in behind us.
And yes that's what my jawdee neighbor says although now he has gone back to supporting Chelsea.
Sunderland play hoof ball, hot potato our players are not skillful enough to hold onto the ball like Tiote and Ben Arfa and are too scared to do so.

Re: Premiership long ball league
Ah yes in the derby they were quite effective for some reason, not even sure why that is considering O'Shea and Cuellar should in theory deal with that type of an attack in their sleep.
Usually we struggle though as Cisse has the strength of an anorexic child and the ball just comes back time and time again.
I wouldn't mind if we had someone who dominates aerially but sadly for this style to be consistently effective we don't.
Quite ironic we sold Carroll and Nolan and were told we would see a more technical style when in reality considering how Pardew is those players would be quite helpful right about now.

If / when Carroll will be leaving LFC in the summer, I hope Newcastle sign him instead of West Ham.

Re: Premiership long ball league
Newcastle won't go for Carroll.. they'd much rather go for a better manager. They have a lot of players currently who don't suit Pardew's hoofball circus.
