Why isn't Iker starting?

Is he still injured or permanently dropped for Lopez?

From what I know hes just back from injury, and is ready, but Lopez have been on such good form Iker needs to wait for his chance. Seems like a fair choice by most would agree...

literally just came back from injury- first match back CL semi final deciding match? wouldnt make sense to me.

He's back from injury and could have started against Levante last weekend.

However I guess it would be unfair for Diego Lopez to be dropped, since he's done well.

You can't really just play someone in the quarters of CL right when they get back from injury. I'm pretty sure he'll get some La Liga games and might even retake the starting position should we make the CL final.

Madrid fans stop deluding yourselves. He's a goalkeeper, not an outfield player, the injury will have very little effect on his performance after recovering from it.

He's not playing because Mourinho is trying to diminish Iker's influence in the dressing room and because he judges Iker to act like he is unsubbable and thus doesn't train hard in trainings. Mou probably also blames Iker for his girlfriend's confessions to the press about dressing room details. Given that Iker is one of the players that has allegedly made things hardest for Mou throughout his three years there it's hardly surprising they have a rocky relationship. Keep in mind that Mou has done this previously with Adan.

you dont understand the concept of being match fit from a goalkeepers perspective. recovering may be easier for him because he was still able to keep fit (not as if it was a serious leg injury).

but the fact that he hasnt been able to take game-intensity type shots for about 3 months coupled with the point that he has very likely lost a little step of quickess in both reflexes and foot movement it would be idiotic to throw him into a CL semi-final deciding match.

hes only been back in full training for a week, and considering how well lopez has been playing it wouldnt make sense to start iker.

I'll admit I perhaps exaggerated with him not starting right away - but that doesn't change the fact that Mou will keep him benched for as long as the has the political capital to do so.

Iker hasn't conceded a goal in a major final, let alone have lost one. If we make the CL final he should play imo, however his form must be considered at the time. Which is why I'm hoping we play both Iker and Lopez half&half for the rest of the La Liga season so that Iker can get back to top to match sharpness and Lopez doesn't lose it.

and lopez has been outstanding, why drop him now?

No one cares anymore, Mou's going, Iker will get his starting spot back and that's the end of it.

The thing is that Iker should not start once Mou goes. Lopez has been every bit his superior. Lopez should request a transfer after Mou leaves, there is no way he will be successful at Madrid without him.

I don't know why we as fans should act outraged at this formality and i'm sure as hell, that Lopez knew what was going to happen as soon as Mou was fired.

I wouldn't want him starting anyway.

I don't know if anyone remembers the 5 month spell of Alex Manninger at Juventus. Superb, unbelievable, performances, Buffon comes back and he gets dropped Mid-February.

No complaints. Buffon is one of the best in the game, he's a valuable asset, he gets to play.

Lopez has done well, however Casillas is the best GK in the World when he's on form. Hopefully he can regain top form over the Summer.
