2013 Algarve Cup Final: Germany vs USA

The final of the Algarve Cup 2013 just kicked off. The World's Nr.1 and 2 women football teams clash for the prestigious trophy. For the Alex Morgan fans - of course she's starting for the US ladies atm.

And in the 13th minute, Alex Morgan scored the 1:0 for the US ladies while the German defense was deep asleep

Minute 34 - Alex Morgan scored the 2:0 as the young German GK Almuth Schult messed up big time when the communication with the CB left much to be desired. (Today Silvia Neid fielded 22 year old Almuth Schult as she is supposed to take over for 34 year old veteran GK Nadine Angerer when the latter retires in the probably not too far future.)

By the way, the US goal is currently guarded by Nicole Barnhart who stands in for Hope Solo who was ruled out for the Algarve Cup with a wrist injury. The second US GK, Jill Loyden, is also out injured, as she suffered a severe fracture of the left hand during training 5 days ago and thus is sidelined for about 3 months.

That was a nicely entertaining match. the US ladies were better than the German team and probably should have won 5:3, but our Ladies didn't give up and fought to keep the draw. Promising fact - there were 5 new gals in the German team (several of the seniors were out injured), and they didn't look bad at all.

I'm looking forward to the Euro 2013 in summer!
