Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
Whats everyone take on the MASSIVE added time each half every game so far? I thought the broadcasters wont like that due to their programs having to run over time Also the players must be even more tired in the warmer more humid weather for longer?

A) This is more accurate timekeeping.
B) The weather is cool (cooler that Europe in August), and not humid.

If we are going to add 10 minutes to every game we might as well stop the clock

It was directed at people who were boycotting the world cup.

Ohhh, so much for the hot condition being a negative for Euro teams then, n a lot of ppl gave SA teams an edge due to it as well lol, how wrong were we all...

You're missing out, the games are very entertaining and most teams go all out attack which is nice

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
On a positive side, its good thing nowadays with so many games all day, one can choose when to tune in n out with the various devices we can watch on. Just leave it running n hear the audio half watching while doing other things. Back in the end when it was just TV n us fans enduring the dull 0-0s after looking forward to a match So now we can just choose which match to actually watch full on depending on what we see unfold, 4 games a day there bound to be a game worth watching
Also just wanna ramble on a bit about how important is it to periodically keep the younger players coming in to replace the old guards.. dunno if its this WC in particular but seems quite many teams are just old - Uruguay, Argentina, Belgium, Croatia, etc., of cos Im sure often the case they just cant keep producing top talent once a golden generation passes but the negative effects are so clear...

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
The only games I was interested in were on Wednesday (España, Canada), when i had appointments, so i only saw last 10 minutes of Canada game. Mostly I’m just score watching and enjoying how right i was about much more surprises this time around.

New directive to more accurately count the time the ball is out of play.

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
Could this be the WC that has non European and non SA countries in the finals?
In the entire history, the final three has always been Europeans and South Americans. Three times it was two Sa and one European, 9 times two from Europe and one from SA and 9 times, the three were European. By the way, the SA were only Brasil and Argentina except for Uruguay twice and Chile once. Oops there was one exception, USA third in first WC.
When I talked about Surprises, it was mostly in regard to how much weaker the Europeans appeared to be. And thus far, only Spain and France have stood out. By the way, it not just the players, it’s also the coaches, specifically England, Portugal and Germany!

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
I think its safe to say Arg will beat Poland n Eng will beat Wales. If thats the case, one half of the bracket should be pretty clear bar any major upset. Basically two QFs should be Arg v a team likely Netherlands/USA, and Fra v Eng which likely will mean SFs will have Arg and Fra

Only realised France really lost the game when I saw this since I turned it off when the final whistle blew lol~
What do ppl think about the VAR calls in this WC? I guess they will never eliminate mistakes n the contraveries will continues, but at at least they've been reduced in compared with b4?

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
This world cup is passing crazy fast
What i like most in such tournaments is group stage, sadly i've only seen like 7 games this year and most of them last week end.

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
NPR can confirm the death of longtime soccer sportswriter Grant Wahl (@GrantWahl). He died today in Doha, Qatar while covering the Argentina-Netherlands World Cup quarterfinal. Story to come.
— Russell Lewis (@rdlewis) December 10, 2022
I'm frankly very shocked by this news. Grant Wahl is a big name in American soccer media. He was essentially its face and most recognizable writer, credited for helping bring the sport into the mainstream here in the US.
I'm posting this here as we don't yet have enough details about the circumstances around his death. What is known is that he collapsed while covering Argentina-Netherlands, was taken to the hospital by Uber and then died there. Beyond that, no other details have been released. His brother did say that they've been touch with the US State Department so that custody of Wahl's remains goes quickly into US hands.
Just really sad stuff.

I was listening to his most recent podcast and he literally said he had bronchitis and was feeling under the weather for the entire week.

Didnt bother reading it all, but cant help but sense the next WC is gonna be shit, it just is, I mean wtf @ the amount of teams, especially low levels... prolly wont bother watching the groups/qualifying/early KOs?
This WC will be remembered as the last decent WC prolly lol?
