Benfica got him for 5.5M from Real Madrid. Selling him for nearly 4 times that value
Benfica and Porto are like Joel Greenblatt.
How much real sign him for?
Edit: 8.8M.
Also he's a Newell's product, like Messi, Di Maria, Ansaldi. They're all within a year of each other, imagine what a team Newell might have had they all stayed
Benfica got 50% of his rights with their 5.5M, we get 50% oft the resale value

Re: Daily Transfer Rumors thread
Vidic doesn't play much any more if this season is anything to go by.
Evans seems to get most of the big games instead and rightly so as Evans has been fantastic this season.
Think Garay is seen as Rio's replacement and Evans Vidic's replacement.
Although Jones and Smalling could push them i suppose.

Re: Daily Transfer Rumors thread
Garay to Man Utd rumor doesnt surprise me, especially if there is some basis to it as i remember Garay was imperious against united a couple years back and marshalled rooney and co superbly.

When did Garay become so good? i mean i always thought he was a lot better than he was given credit for but seems like he has reached another status now, so much that Mole talks about him as Rio replacement? odd

Garay just wanted regular football, which I doubt he would have got even if Albiol was sold.

Tbf all i said is that i reckon if they sign him then the club will see him as a Rio replacement.
I have no real opinion on the subject as of right now.
Anyway i hope to god this is true.....
NEWCASTLE United will bat back any offers for Yohan Cabaye this summer as they look to reshape their team around the France midfielder in the close season.
The Journal can reveal that Mike Ashley has already privately ruled out selling Cabaye (left), who will be named captain if Fabricio Coloccini – as expected – leaves Newcastle in the close season.
And rather than cashing in on their star assets, United have signaled their desire to rebuild after a campaign of disappointment. Preliminary plans are already in place, but the club intend to bring in more players in the Massadio Haidara mould, while also clearing the decks of more senior professionals who have been unable to nail down a place this season.
Steve Harper has already confirmed he will leave in the summer and United will make several players available to offers, with the likes of Dan Gosling set to leave in search of more first-team football. Danny Simpson will also exit the club.
The idea is to supplement the squad with more players like Haidara, who will complement the “purples” already there.
But it is news that Cabaye will be retained and given a central role in a remoulded team that will really excite supporters. Last summer, to deter potential suitors, the club quoted a blanket valuation of £25million to any tentative enquiries about any of their star names. They will do the same again this close season as they look to get back into contention for a top-six slot.
United’s finances look fairly healthy; the soon-to-be-released accounts are understood to show an operating profit even though the club brought forward the signings of Moussa Sissoko and Yoan Gouffran – and there is likely to be
investment again in the summer because of the extra TV revenue.
Newcastle will again look to the French market for recruits and are understood to be in the market for a striker, a centre-back and a wide player in the summer to bolster boss Alan Pardew’s options.
Chief scout Graham Carr was understood to be one of many Premier League talent spotters at the France under-20 game on Thursday night, with Lyon’s Samuel Utiti understood to be one player drawing interest from the Magpies. Former target Florian Thauvin also featured up front.

Re: Daily Transfer Rumors thread
Chelsea are locked in a contract row over teenager Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
The Blues have been accused of breaking an agreement with agent Joseph Donkor, who is taking his case to an FA tribunal in a bid to win £1.3million in unpaid fees from the player, his parents and the club.
Loftus-Cheek, 17, is one of the hottest young talents in English football. But the size of the contract Chelsea have promised the teenager is astonishing.
They were willing to ensure Loftus-Cheek gained millionaire status before his 20th birthday in a deal that had to be personally ratified by owner Roman Abramovich.
Without even breaking into the first team, Loftus-Cheek would bank more than £1.7m. His basic salary over the two-and-half years of his deal was worth £912,000. Chelsea also agreed to pay him a signing-on fee of £375,000, in three instalments, while three loyalty bonuses would have totalled a further £350,000.
Donkor, the agent, was scheduled to be paid £1million by Chelsea for arranging the contract.
The other £300,000 in his claim is down to his commission on the player’s contract, a potential boot sponsorship deal and legal fees plus interest.
Before signing his first pro contract, Loftus-Cheek was attracting interest from Manchester United, Manchester City and Barcelona.
Donkor, a FIFA-licensed agent, claims Loftus-Cheek reneged on their agreement in March 2012, after being told by the player’s father that he should have also demanded a house from the club.
A Chelsea spokesman said: “The FA rules contain strict confidentiality obligations and prohibit the club or any other party under the jurisdiction of the FA from commenting on arbitration issues.”
Now read how football agents are going to war over an 'illegal approach' for the Chelsea teenage star.
..............
This is ridiculous. So much money for a 17 year old

How is this related to the thread?

TBH the salary is not that ridiculous for a oil-money club, and 17 is old enough to recognize a talent. Have read more stupid transfer news.
