Arsenal Tactics Empty Arsenal Tactics

Post by Highburied Wed Feb 13, 2013 11:21 pm

Anyone support the idea of speaking tactics?

Here we can discuss Arsenal tactics in a few areas.

- Formation
- Movements
- Defence
- Attack
- Passing style
- marking

Etc

We can start with general tactics and after game by game basis.

Id like to raise a concern when the opposition parks the bus.

When we need to score for w/e reason, our players tend to play too much side way passes.

Our biggest issue is the right wing area with Sagna asking for the ball and doing nothing with it or failing to cross, etc

It surprises me how Wenger hasnt noticed this.

I will raise a few more points later tomorrow because i need to sleep now ffs gotta work early.

i'm just wondering about the tactics wenger will use against bayern, how will we cope with their attack. saf showed yesterday a tactical masterclass, can wenger do the same?

tbh i have a feeling whatever wenger does, one of our defenders are going FCK IT UP like they usually do in big games *cough* verm *cough*. even kosi and merte at times flop in big games. hopefully this time nobody makes a mistake in the first 10min like usual.

Good to see such threads.. There is hardly any posting going on when we win games..
Yes.. When teams used to park the bus, they crowd the centre, making penetration difficult and hence we are forced wide.. Cazorla has good passing and vision but he fails to carry the ball forward.. We have hardly faced this problem recently since Wilshere is playing.. When playing wide Sagnas end product has been consistently bad.. Jenko also doesnt look good offensively with his timid possession and passing except for his crossing.. We would benefit better channeling our attacks through the left wing where Gibbs is good offensively and links up well with Podolski and Giroud..

We should discuss all of the tactics HB mentioned and then somebody should get Wenger to read this thread... Especially the defensive tactics

Wenger has to get it right against Bayren, his tactics have been poor and against one of the best teams in the world he has to get it right.

Not sure how well Giroud is going to perform or it would best to put Podolski up front like his old team Koln.

Why are our fullbacks and even Wingers are so bad at crossing the ball?

No chance we're going to change our tactics for the Bayern game. At most, you'll see us sit back in a 4-4-1-1 when Bayern have the ball. Other than that, we'll play the same as always.

The Bayern game, for me, will be less about tactics and more about how courageous Arsenal are; whether they're brave enough to press Bayern and really try and test their defence. I think the only question mark about our tactics is whether we'll go for Arteta-Wilshere-Cazorla-Podolski-Walcott-Giroud or Arteta-Ramsey/Diaby-Wilshere-Cazorla-Walcott-Giroud. Hopefully the former, as I feel Podolski would do a better job protecting our make-shift left back than Cazorla or Ramsey would.

Giroud shouldn't start this one, he will be too slow and too easy to mark for Bayern centre halves plus his finishing is average as well. Theo should start upfront, his pace will give them something to think about.

Dante will easily nullify walcott mate. Giroud is a must because he is better in the air than their CBs. Plus he has been in excellent form as well.

Walcott would be better at the RW so he can stop Alba making so many runs.

Our midfield is more mobile than theirs. At the Allianz we should play like Juventus did against Celtic. Press and defend and counter with the pace players.

Im sure i read somehwere dante is suspended

Anyway, dont know about the second leg, but think we will try and play our own game at the emirates. rather than imitate juventus/utd.

For me the question is do we play cazorla in a left sided position and play ramsey/diaby with arteta and jack slightly further up. For me this our best line up going forward as it offers us more mobility and creativity. However there is a big question mark about not playing podolski and whether we can trust ramsey/diaby for a game like this

At home we will more or less play our usual way. Just depends if Arsenal of the 2nd half turns up or 1st. If it's 1st then the tie will be over because bayern are ruthless. If we actually do show up then it will be interesting.

I would go for Arteta-Wilshere-Cazorla midfield. Diaby i am not sure because he hasn't hit his pre injury form yet and he might start on saturday as well. Podolski is a must because he will be fired up against bayern.

Don't know where u been mate. Le'Coq has indeed played at LB before and was very good at it. He actually contributed really well to the attacks too.
Not saying he should get the nod for LB though.

It sounds strange but I'd prefer Miquel and TV5 in the middle. The front players must carry the attacking burden.
I would then play Podolski on the left for his pace on the counter and his workrate in defence. Santiago in front of Jack and Mikel. He wouldn't need to carry the ball but just spray intelligent passes to release Poldi and Theo

Line up against Bayren? I think Coquelin can play RB better than anyone that is available.

Thumbs up
i too would go for a midfield of Wilshere-Diaby-Arteta if Diaby was anywhere near his best.. Cazorla is a pure offensive player whose only position in our midfield is as CAM or on the wings.. But i feel Wilshere and Rosicky are better than him in CAM roles..

If Vermaelen is fit then he is the best choice.

Miquel might be involved too.

Speaking of midfield trio.

The situation is on left wing because we cannot afford to start without Cazorla and Podolski.

Assuming that both will start, my guess is Arteta and Wilshere will play behind Cazorla.

Wenger will not risk Jack this weekend.

Do we really want to Risk Vermaelen for this game? we need him for the rest of the season.

I just hope is not a gamble that will coast us huge.

Yes, I know its a big game but our chances are not that great and if Vermaelen thrown in there and after 15-20m we have to make a sub it could coast us.

If Vermaelen can do it, I am all for it.

Whats the point of ignoring this game?

We have to go ALL IN, otherwise, people who pay money to watch this game will ask for Wenger's head.

Games like these are the ones we have to improve the most.

We always screw up when it matters.

Not ignoring the game, if Vermaelen not healthy enouph, we should not risk it.

This is one of the biggest games of our life, we need a healthy squad and nothing is worse than replacing a player 15-20m in to the game with a panic sub.

I hope none of this matters come game day and Vermaelen is healthy and ready to go.
