Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete?
Provin nature's laws wrong it learned how to walk without havin feet
Funny it seems but, by keepin its dreams
it, learned to breathe FRESH air
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else even cared
No one else even cared..
The rose that grew from concrete
You see you wouldn't ask why the rose that grew from the concrete
had damaged petals. On the contrary, we would all celebrate its
tenacity. We would all love it's will to reach the sun.
Well, we are the rose - this is the concrete - and these are
my damaged petals. Don't ask me why, thank God , ask me how!

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
Unfortunately it never came out as a song because he got assassinated before he could release his final album. So it's just poetry
But another of his beautiful work
But another of his beautiful work

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
These warehouse wages
Kill the ends introduction
Man I should have schooled it up
When I was younger should have stuck to plan
Always had the dreams of bein' more self assertive
And my kids a teenager now he needs the health insurance
So break my body
Break break my soul down
Just another zombie walkin' blindly through your ghost town
Pull up to the bar to politic and tap the power
Ain't nobody really all that jolly at your happy hour
But I don't want to go home yet
So I'm gonna talk to my cigarette
And that television set
It doesn't matter what brand or station
Anything to take away from the current situation
[Refrain]
No overtime pay, no holiday
Months behind on everything but the lottery
Winter around the corner guaranteein' that my car dies
Wifey havin' trouble tryin' to juggle both the part times
My cup ain't close to filled up
We tryin' to build up so we can have enough
And when I finally get the color
There won't be nothing left to paint on
A friend of mine tried to kill himself to the same song
[Verse 2]
My better half is mad at making magic out of canned goods
My tax bracket status her questionin' my manhood
My shorty got caught smoking weed at a concert
And if I smack em everybody treats me like a monster
My neighbors ain't doin' much better
And we making competition instead of stickin' together
Can't save no nest egg, in fact this nest is rented
In fact that rent is late, wait
The money ain't here the raise ain't comin'
Just me and my son and that crazy woman
And those bartenders this whole *bleep*' country
Got everybody swallowin' that lunch meat
Maybe we can speed up the process
Kill me in my thirties in the name of progress
Put me in the dirt and then change the topic
Some time it seems like the only way to stop it
Contemplate my departure date
Doesn't take a lot to get a lot of us to talk this way
Take a shot at me that's all I'm obligated for
Apparently my only guarantee is a walk away
The only guarantee in life is a life worth dyin' for
Cause death don't wait for no one
Sittin' on your front door
The only guarantee in life is a life worth dyin' for
Cause death don't wait for no one
Sittin' on your front door

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
- Spoiler:
I hope that God decides to talk through him
That the people decide to walk with him
Regardless of Pitchfork cosigns I've jumped
Make sure the soundman doesn't cockblock the drums
Let the snare knock the air right out of your lungs
And those words be the oxygen
Just breathe
Hey man, regardless I'mma say it
Felt like I got signed the day that I got an agent
Got an iTunes check, shit man I'm paying rent
About damn time that I got out of my basement
About damn time I got around the country and I hit these stages
I was made to slay them
Ten thousand hours I'm so damn close I can taste it
On some Malcolm Gladwell, David Bowie meets Kanye shit
This is dedication
A life lived for art is never a life wasted
Ten thousand
[Hook] (x2)
Ten thousand hours felt like ten thousand hands
Ten thousand hands, they carry me
[Verse 2: Macklemore]
Now, now, now
This is my world, this is my arena
The tv told me something different I didn't believe it
I stand here in front of you today all because of an idea
I could be who I wanted if I could see my potential
And I know that one day I'mma be him
Put the gloves on, sparring with my ego
Everyone's greatest obstacle, I beat him, celebrate that achievement
Got some attachments, some baggage I'm actually working on leaving
See, I observed Escher, I love Basquiat
I watched Keith Haring, you see I studied art
The greats weren't great because at birth they could paint
The greats were great cause they paint a lot
I will not be a statistic, just let me be
No child left behind, that's the American scheme
I make my living off of words
And do what I love for work
And got around 980 on my SATs
Take that system, what did you expect?
Generation of kids choosing love over a desk
Put those hours in and look at what you get
Nothing that you can hold, but everything that it is
Ten thousand
[Hook]
[Verse 3: Macklemore]
Same shit, different day, same struggle
Slow motion as time slips through my knuckles
Nothing beautiful about it, no light at the tunnel
For the people that put the passion before them being comfortable
Raw, unmedicated heart no substitute
Banging on table tops, no subs to toot
I'm feeling better than ever man, what is up with you?
Scraping my knuckles, I'm battling with some drug abuse
I lost another friend, got another call from a sister
And I speak for the people that share that struggle too
Like they got something bruised
My only rehabilitation was the sweat, tears and blood when up in the booth
[Bridge: Macklemore]
It's the part of the show where it all fades away
When the lights go to black and the band leaves the stage
And you wanted an encore but there's no encore today
Cause the moment is now, can't get it back from the grave
Part of the show - it all fades away
Lights go to black - band leaves the stage
You wanted an encore but there's no encore today
Cause the moment is now, can't get it back from the grave
[Outro: Macklemore]
Welcome to the Heist
Welcome to the Heist

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
A place to spend my quiet nights, Time to unwind,
so much pressure in this life of mine, I cry at times,
I once contemplated suicide and woulda tried
But when I held that nine all I could see was my mama's eyes
No one knows my struggle, they only see the trouble
Not knowing it's hard to carry on when no one loves you
Picture me inside the misery and poverty
No man alive has ever witnessed struggles I survived
Praying hard for better days, Promised to hold on
Me and my dogs don't have a choice but to roll on
We finally found a spot to kick it
Where we could drink liquor and no one bickers over trick shit
A spot where we could smoke in peace
And even though we Gs,
We still visualize places that we could roll a piece
And in my minds eye, I see this place the players go and pass it
Got a spot for us all, So we can ball
At Thug'z Mansion
Ain't no place id rather be
chillin' with homies and family
sky high iced out paradise in the sky(thugz Manison.)
Aint no place id rather be
only place thats right for me
chromed out manison in paradise in the sky
Will I survive all the fights in the darkness? Trouble sparks
They tell me home is where the heart is, dear departed
I shed tattoo tears and couldn't sleep
Good for multiple years Witness peers catch gunshots,
nobody cares see the politicians ban us,
they'd rather see us locked in chains
Please explain why they can't stand us
Is there a way for me to change?
Or am I just a victim of things I did to maintain?
I need a place to rest my head with the little bit of homeboys that remain
Cause all the rest dead
Is there a spot for us to grow? If ya find it, I'll be right behind ya,
show me and I'll go
How can I be peaceful?
I'm coming from the bottom Watch my daddy scream peace while the other man shot em
I need a house that's full of love when I need to escape the deadly places
slanging drugs
In Thugz Mansion
Ain't no place id rather be
chillin' with homies and family
sky high iced out paradise in the sky(thugz Manison.)
Aint no place id rather be
only place thats right for me
chromed out manison in paradise in the sky
Dear mama don't cry, Your baby boy's doin' good
Tell the homies I'm in heaven and it ain't got hoods
Seen a show with Marvin Gaye last night
It had me shook
Drinking peppermint schnapps with Jackie Wilson and Sam Cook
Then some lady named Billie Holiday sang
Sittin there kickin it with Malcolm till the day came
Lil' Latasha sure grown, tell the lady in the liquor store that she's forgiven
So come home
Maybe in time you'll understand, only God can save us
Where Miles Davis cutting lose with the band
Just think of all the people that you knew in the past that passed on
They in heaven found peace at last
Picture a place that they exist, together
There has to be a place better than this, in Heaven
So right before I sleep dear God what I'm asking
Remember this face, save me a place

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
Great stuffs
Bruce SpringSteen - Downbound Train, remarkably simple yet haunting. The Boss usually wrote cinematic lyrics with proper storyline.
I had a job, I had a girl
I had something going, mister, in this world
I got laid off down at the lumber yard
Our love went bad, times got hard
Now I work down at the carwash
Where all it ever does is rain
Don't you feel like you're a rider
On a downbound train
She just said, "Joe, I gotta go
We had it once, we ain't got it anymore"
She packed her bags left me behind
She bought a ticket on the Central Line
Nights as I sleep, I hear that whistle whining
I feel her kiss in the misty rain
And I feel like I'm a rider on a downbound train
Last night I heard your voice
You were crying, crying, you were so alone
You said your love had never died
You were waiting for me at home
Put on my jacket, I ran through the woods
I ran till I thought my chest would explode
There in the clearing, beyond the highway
In the moonlight, our wedding house shone
I rushed through the yard, I burst through the front door
My head pounding hard, up the stairs I climbed
The room was dark, our bed was empty
Then I heard that long whistle whine
And I dropped to my knees, hung my head and cried
Now I swing a sledge hammer on a railroad gang
Knocking down them cross ties, working in the rain
Now don't it feel like you're a rider on a downbound train.

"The Suffering" - Coheed and Cambria
Is there a word or right to say
Even in this old fashioned way?
Go make your move, girl
I'm not coming home
Would things have changed if I could've stayed?
Would you have loved me either way?
Dressed to the blues.
Day to day with my collar up.
Decision sits so make it quick
A breath inhaled from an air so sick
I cursed the day I had learned
Of the web you spun...
You had your hold till bleeding
Hey, Hey!
If it was up to me
I would've figured you out
Way before the year clocked out
Oh, I hope you're waiting
Hey, Hey!
If it was up to me
I would've never walked out
So until the sun burns out
Oh, I hope you're waiting
Would we have lived as a child would care?
With this vial to drink I dare
(Oh where have you been, oh where have you been)
Only to cry all alone with your taste on tongue
(Oh where have you been if it hurts to be forgiving? Bye)
Should we try this again with hope? (Bye, bye)
Or is it lost, give up the ghost
And should I die all alone as I knew I would...
Then burn in hell young sinner
Hey, Hey! (Ha ha)
If it was up to me
I would've figured you out
Way before the year clocked out
Oh, I hope you're waiting
Oh, I hope you're waiting
Listen well... will you marry me?
Not now, Boy
Are you well in the Suffering?
You've been the most gracious of hosts
You may be invited, girl, but you're not coming in
Listen well... will you marry me?
Not now, Boy
Are you well in the Suffering?
You've been the most gracious of hosts
I may be invited, girl, but I'm not coming in
Hey, Hey!
If it was up to me (you had your hold)

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
Two sets of footprints placed ahead of the dirt softened from tear drops
And overlooking the earth as the son of the moon
Protected by a forcefield of pure thought.. On this I stand
A rally of unemployed disgrunt of words on for long journeys to somewhere
Somewhere that only causes me pain as I strain my soul crammin into rightness
So I can bring some there
I bleed the blood of a cold stone that rolls without a shadow
I'm only deep enough to realize that I'm shallow
My head I keep it up but its hard to keep it straight
When you don't believe in love
And you just can't cope with hate
Metal rust, leaves turn into dust
As the difference between love and lust clarifies as trust
If you only had an hour to sum your whole life up
Would you spend that hour sayin that an hour ain't enough
I've escaped the shield that bound me a cowardess
Now I'm faithful to the wind but compared to it I'm powerless
The first step was made, and it was a fair accomplishment
The pond was sittin still, so I threw a rock in it
And as my reflection rippled it all became clear
The seasons always change so there's no reason for fear
We made an autobiography of our pivotal years
Its all I got and I'm giving it you because I care
A lot of the time humans are hard to stay susistent
Self-projecting state of falsehood
Were either too close to our image to stay objective in our conception
Or too far away to be subjective in any matter
This only widens our void in social conformity
Introduced to our souls at birth and so I write
I don't write without the intention of objectivity
Or attention in the image
But only as an unright directional bridge
Between the several flowing tunes scripture
Reality is present in countless space and time
See I don't write for the future
I write about the future, for the present
I write with my past, about the future, for the present
On this I stand
The oasis of the limbo adjacent to my generation, facing out the window
Waiting for some ventilation, patient while the wind blows
Faceful in its demonstration, overall innovation
On this I stand
A fountain of youth sovereignty, found in syllables more than a pound of flesh
Deep breath of achievement, a dream and a wake up call
Another haul of the quest
On this I stand
Another loved civilization
On this I stand
The purity of creation
On this I stand
A paradigm for self
On this I stand
I thank you for your help
On this I stand
My first born child
On this I stand
Something for now
On this I stand
Life, love, death and hate
On this I stand
And helmwood, glad you could relate. Peace...

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
"Now when I say 2-0, you say
Nah, you know the rest
This is our scene
Our music, our movement, the history lives through us
I write to the beat and let life play the guitar strings
Despite the drama, there's respect and camaraderie
Every time one of my friends is mentioned in my philosophy
It's a rite of passage, I'm not trying to be corny
I got love for Sportn' Life, Alpha P, Massline, and Onry
Every time somebody steps out on the road
They bring a little Northwest soul with them, amen
Alright then, just so you know
I try to carry that everytime that I rock a show
So, turn my sound up
Ricochet off our mountain
It's Good Medicine that Chief Sealth would of been proud of
Sends our city, town pride, heart, blood, sweat, tears, I-5, North, South side, vibe, live, ride down these city blocks
And never will be stopped
They tryin' to shut down the clubs that my city rocks
Now Mr. Mayor why would you enforce an ordinance?
Music it saves lives, these kids out here are supporting it
And through the art form we've learned the importance of community
Truth to the youth so they know what's up
Yup, and as a public school student
I learned from my teachers, but became through my music
Take that away, that's a vital
14 Fathoms Deep, Do the Math, Tribal
My greatest teachers: Beasope and Bida
Wordsayer was my mayor and things have changed
But I carry the torch and what I do with that flame
Is lit everytime that I step on the stage
The skyline is etched in my veins
You can never put that out, no matter how hard it rains"
Macklemore - The Town

Opening lyrics of Cause by Sixto Rodriguez
Cause I lost my job two weeks before Christmas
And I talked to Jesus at the sewer
And the Pope said it was none of his God-damned business
While the rain drank champagne
My Estonian Archangel came and got me wasted
Cause the sweetest kiss I ever got is the one I've never tasted
Cause I lost my job two weeks before Christmas
And I talked to Jesus at the sewer
And the Pope said it was none of his God-damned business
While the rain drank champagne
My Estonian Archangel came and got me wasted
Cause the sweetest kiss I ever got is the one I've never tasted

I watched the 2013 Oscar-winning documentary Searching for Sugar Man last week, which is based on Sixto Rodriquez. The first line in that song is exactly what happens to Rodriquez after it was released in the 1971. He was dropped by his label 2 weeks before Christmas.
I don't want to reveal more because I highly recommend watching this documentary. It will definitely leave an impact.
Searching for Sugar Man tells the incredible true story of Rodriguez, the greatest '70s rock icon who never was.

"Love means, check it out yeah
Love always has hope for another day
Love is grace, love is patient
Even when it doesn't wanna stay
It doesn't run away, like "andale"
It perseveres and suffers pain
And doesn't suffocate though it holds tight
And it doesn't change
Though some would say that love is vain
And it's just a game for the young ones on lovers lane
Or just the chemistry of the brain
Just science, you know something sane
But you know that love is strange
And wild and heartbreaking and unexplained
Love is dangerous as a dark street
Our world's going up in flames
Still love isn't violent, that said it's nothing safe
Cuz it means standing up to hate
So love is costly but love can save and I'm of the faith
But "love your neighbor" isn't a christian or muslim phrase
No one owns it as some brothers claim
From the pulpit or from the stage
And in the coming age
I hope we'll see it as gay straight and colorless
Sometimes we all feel motherless above the grave
But it's in death and new life when love is made
It's when you're unashamed and finally unafraid
When you confront the pain
Face death and you'll see in the end only love remains"

The entire lyrics to 'Tears in heaven' by Eric Clapton.
So so simple and easy, soothing, beautiful, nothing cryptic about them, but they hit hard when you realise he's yearning for his son he lost, hes asking questions we'd all ask when we lose a loved one.
'Beyond the door, there's peace i'm sure, and i know ther'll be no more tears in heaven'

"I'm so goddamn tired, can't tell if I'm done, or just un-inspired
And don't give me that you can be somebody speech
That ain't your place, let me be
I'm an example of a candle lit life
With electric relaxation, brain trampled by devotion
To remote control channel changin
Something provoked the whole globe to lower expectations
Damn, what's wrong with my generation?
We was the cream of the crop but it seems we've been robbed
That's what happens when you trade in all your dreams for a job
And every day it gets less and less exciting
I would make a difference but I'm busy faking this instead of trying
Change my shift from now to never and I'll pretend I'm fine
Why am I always stuck at the shitty end of the assembly line
I guess I'm built to be intoxicated with hope
Sometimes it's a journey, most of the time it's just a bad joke
And in my skull there's a junk drawer I can't organize
The first to come in last to leave we'll never be immortalized
This sort of life is completely overrated, I'm sick of being the
Only one I know that's trying to make it
So right now I'm heading home, got Sounds of Nature Volume 1 in
My headphones and half a bottle of prednisone
That's the reaction to an overdose of passion
Brainless, stagnant...ain't it magic?"
