Matri tired of ‘top player’ talk Empty Matri tired of ‘top player’ talk

Alessandro Matri is getting bored of talk that Juventus are lacking a 'top player' in attack. “The criticism of us is exaggerated.”

The Old Lady may be the Italian champions and present League leaders, but there are question marks over the effectiveness of their attackers in front of goal.

And it is no secret that the club have tried and failed to sign a big name striker for over two years now.

“If you look at the situation carefully, you understand who wants the top player more out of the club and the media,” Matri noted.

“It seems like the latter to me. That’s why we are criticised in an exaggerated manner.

There is no top player here, there is a squad that works as a unit. Us attackers work to score, but also work to create goals.

“Unfortunately you like to criticise our attack and not highlight the work it does. But you have to deal with criticism when you play for Juventus, you have to respond to it on the pitch.”

The former Cagliari player hasn’t been guaranteed a starting shirt this term, but he began and scored in the 2-1 win at Chievo on Sunday.

“It felt like a great goal,” he said of his volleyed effort. “Strange though, because normally when I strike it well, I don’t score…

“Everyone wants to play, but unfortunately there are only 11 players on the pitch. As in every team, there is a pecking order. All you can do is give your all and give the Coach something to think about.

“I’m not satisfied with being a reserve, I’m working to play in the starting XI. Pecking orders have to be respected, but you can try and change them.”

The Italian international also insisted that he knew that the January transfer window would have no consequences for him.

“I never felt as if my future was in the balance last month. Neither the club or my agent told me anything.”

Well, if our strikers start playing like "top players" then no one would have to talk about the subject.

Well if Matri can keep it up he can fight for a starting XI spot. It's good to see he takes offense to the comments but he's had plenty of chances. A striker can't miss so many opportunities at a big club. Like I said, if he keeps it up then he can be the 'Top player' Good luck and keep scoring my boy.
