Re: All-Star EPL vs La Liga
Why are you guys saying pick a certain amount per team? You have to pick the best players in each position. If its only barca and real then that's what it is.

Re: All-Star EPL vs La Liga
lol at the EPL fanboys changing the rules to a certain amount of players from each team to try and make it a contest.
Even with only 3 players from 1 team La Liga would still win 4 - 0 instead of 5 - 0.

i think its more exciting to see different combinations of players playing with each other. sacrificing a bit of talent to see more combinations of players from different teams is a plus imo.
and its not like la liga is lacking in talent outside of the top 2, there is falcao, isco, banega, toulalan in that DM role and lots of different defenders etc.

Top clubs bitch and moan every time an international friendly is played. You think they're going to want to lend 5 or 6 of their best players for a charity event?white_star wrote:Why are you guys saying pick a certain amount per team? Re: All-Star EPL vs La Liga
Be realistic, the game if ever played wouldnt be a uber competitive one with anything at stake. It has to be a light hearted charity game where you want to have fun with some competitive edge involved.
I dont want to see Barca and Madrid 11 wipe the floor with guys who never played together before. Its pointless.
And as a Barca fan, I dont want to see a player get injured in it..and when you have half out team out there the chances of that are more likely.

It would be the first time Ronaldo and Messi play in the same team. I like the idea alot, actually.

Re: All-Star EPL vs La Liga
Good idea but will never happen, Be even better if they did a mini tournament, in one of the off seasons where the worldcup or Euros don't take place.
Then they could have a team from each of the big leagues.
I know the fan boys wont like it but it would be better imo if they limited the number of players from each team.
Give the none glory supporters a chance to get behind their players and have some interest in it.

Re: All-Star EPL vs La Liga
I would imagine it wouldn't be that competitive, it would be about having fun with the best players and more show to make sure everyone that attends has a good time. Especially if it is for charity. Same as similar American events.

Another meaningless match where club players could get injured after long seasons? Yea, sounds great.

Not to mention these are the best club players. These aren't scrubs- they are the stars of their respective teams.
No thanks.

Re: All-Star EPL vs La Liga
the proposed idea would be for charity, so ya totally meaningless
and who would like to see the likes of messi and ronaldo on the same team- probably no one.
charity matchs like this happen every year - at least this idea is more exciting than real madrid v some costa rican team no ones heard of or who ever they played for that charity match recently.

Re: All-Star EPL vs La Liga
Why not just take a certain cut off of the earnings of the clubs/league/players for the charity?
There are many more efficient and less problematic ways to raise money for charities that do not run into the same logistical issues and potential problems as such a match would.

Re: All-Star EPL vs La Liga
I don't know. Maybe it will be a fantastic marketing opportunity for both leagues on the whole? Maybe it becomes a venture that has income opportunities for everyone rather than just being a donation process? Maybe it would simply be a friendly game where skill is on showcase rather than people rabidly pursuing a win. Maybe that would almost nullify the chances of dudes getting injured?
Maybe it might just be fun to watch.

Like how the "friendly" part in "international friendly" nullifies the chance of a player getting injured?

Re: All-Star EPL vs La Liga
How many dudes have you seen injured in these all star charity games? You can always get injured in a game. You can always get injured in a training session. Injuries happen.
This match (in an ideal world) would be a showcase of skill, not some competitive game where teams are looking to prove a point.
Which international friendlies usually descend in to.
How about it be optional? If you don't want to play you don't have to play.

Re: All-Star EPL vs La Liga
Ideal world.
Descend into.
What exactly convinces you that this match will end up anything like an "ideal world match" and not follow the exact pattern of international friendlies and descend in to competitive point proving?
And you also prove my point... injuries can happen in every match (and they're far more likely in a match than training, even a friendly) even more so at the end of a long and grueling campaign. Why add the risk?

Re: All-Star EPL vs La Liga
The nature of charity games with amalgamated all star teams like this just isn't conducive to people being competitive...but more importantly aggressive. They're looking to entertain - they get no reward for winning the game.
I already said why they'd take the risk.
Everyone at a top club is already risking themselves in these gimmick trips to America and China where the dude's they're playing actually feel as though they're participating in competitive matches. They do it because - well they have to- but the club wouldn't carry out these if there weren't economic incentives. Which there are here.
Is this simply some tipping point you feel completely crosses the boundary or would you abandon all those marketing processes as well, no more farewell games for that matter, no more professional footballers participating in competitively meaningless games that go a long way in building the economic foundation of football?

We'll just have to continue to disagree. You're pushing hard on the slippery slope but I'm simply not interested in sitting around debunking obvious fallacies again.

Bale on the right?
He sucks when he switches wings with Lennon for the most part. In fact, both of them suck when they switch wings, which makes me wonder why they even attempt it, when they do.

I am sure 11 cowards standing on the edge of their box all game and somehow fluking a victory will raise lots of money for charity and prove EPL is better.

The match will be organised for charity and fun... not to prove which league is better. You seriously worry me sometimes mate
