Re: Messi makes history
its fantastic that almost all fans football are congratulating Messi and so it is also clear that who are really stupid fanboyz....
never knew before that to break a record you have too play less games with scoring more....i am sure if that happens next year those people would come and say Muller played less minutes than Messi...I am happy that those people are losing sleeps for searching this kind of silly logics and will lose more sleeps in coming days as Leo keep on breaking records.....

Exactly, it's like saying Peyroteo still has all the records because nobody will beat his GPG, ever.neuro11 wrote:its fantastic that almost all fans football are congratulating Messi and so it is also clear that who are really stupid fanboyz....

I've also noticed that GPG is usually a simple mans statistic, those who hardly understand it lauds it the most.

Re: Messi makes history
Flamengo claims Zico scored 89 goals in 1979.
It won't end here, Pele is probably calling his assistant as we speak

Re: Messi makes history
Zico scored 70 goals in official competitions in 1979. Somebody really needs to explain Brazilian's the difference between official games, and practice/ exhibition games.

Re: Messi makes history
Müller scored only 2 penalties in 1972. One was in the DfB-Pokal 1st round, 2nd leg against HSV Barmbek-Uhlenhorst. The other was in a Bundesliga match against MSV Duisburg. I believe the PK order was Roth, Beckenbauer, and then Müller IIRC.

Re: Messi makes history
Does anyone know where puskas ranks in this? i dont know if playing behind an iron curtain is counting against him here or not. Lookng at his record in hungary there was a point that he scored 96 league goals over two seasons (average nearly 50 like messi last season) + goals for his NT in that year, i dont know how many he scored in other official competitions in those years, it seems like his record for a calendar year might be right up there but there is a lack of information

72-73 Round 12 FCB - Hannover 96
Also there is no record of the DFB Ligapokal 12 goals, so might have scored in those also.

Re: Messi makes history
Anyone been reading bbc sport today? Apparently there's a Zambian player who once scored 107 goals in a calendar year in 1972. He was part of the team who died in the plane crash. The Zambian FA are sending the records to Fifa......

Guinness & FIFA recognises Messi's single-year goal record
http://www.dnaindia.com/sport/report_guinness-recognises-messi-s-single-year-goal-record_1777465
Guinness World Records has recognised FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi for setting a new mark for most goals in a calendar year - 88 and counting.
The 25-year-old Argentine has notched that total with two Spanish league matches left in 2012, surpassing the previous record that Germany's Gerd Muller had held for 40 years.
Guinness and FIFA issued a statement Thursday saying that Messi's goals this year and those of Muller in 1972 are part of the official record and there should be no controversy surrounding the Argentine's feat.
So that's that really.
