Rafael Benitez Appointed Interim Manager

Chelsea Football Club can confirm Rafael Benitez has been appointed interim first-team manager until the end of the season.

The owner and the Board believe that in Benitez we have a manager with significant experience at the highest level of football, who can come in and immediately help deliver our objectives.

The 52-year-old Spaniard is due to meet the players at the training ground in Cobham tomorrow.

The two-time UEFA Manager of the Year comes with outstanding pedigree. He began his managerial career in his homeland, most notably at Valencia where he built a reputation as one of Europe's top coaches by winning the Spanish League twice and the UEFA Cup. He then spent six years at Liverpool and led them to their fifth European Cup and an FA Cup.

The board and Abramovich are officially a complete joke. They know how the supporters feel about him, and this decision confirms once again that they couldn't care less about us.

Even if by some miracle Torres scores more than 15 goals this season, he's still dead to me.

Honestly, as much as I despise the man and am completely opposed to this appointment, I hope there are no protests against him personally on Sunday. The team is already in a bad place as it is, the last thing we need is protests against its new manager which can only make the players even more uncertain and ill-at-ease.

However, I'm completely in favour of, and sincerely hope there ARE, vocal, widespread protests and shows of dissatisfaction towards the board and Abramovich himself. Perhaps even break out the old "Our Club, Not Your Toy" banner . It'd also be nice to see the crowd do some kind of nod to Robbie at some stage. Someone on twitter I believe suggested perhaps doing something in the 16th minute. Would be a really nice touch.

agreed, not happy with Rafa but protesting is completely unnecessary it only creates more chaos for the club.
