Lamela - Jovetic - El Sharaawy

Coach : difficult choice between Stramaccioni , Montella or even Petkovic hmm

You're forgetting Milito, too many forwards to choose from right now

Mine would probably be:

SES-Milito-Lamela
Asamoah-Hernanes-Pirlo-Cuadrado
Chiellini-Juan Jesus-Barzagli
Handanovic

yeah , perhaps you are right .

However , can't find room for all of them . And i think i tried too much , i guess , to include Morganella , Cuadrado and Asamoah might have been better than him so far. He's been great for Palermo though and considering their defence , having performed so well , it wasn't a peace of cake either .

But yeah , i pretty much agree with that lineup except for Hernanes ;

Montolivo , Pirlo , Pizzaro have been more vital and influental than Hernanes , though i can understand why you picked him . He's doing very well too .

Fair enough on Hernanes, very arguable between him, Pizarro and Montolivo- they can be interchanged
The rest I'm pretty happy with, you could argue for Ranocchia, Bonucci, Campagnaro in defence but I don't think there will be too many arguments

Asamoah and Cuadrado have been immense for me

And the attack speaks for itself. Jovetic, Di Natale and Cavani might break in later on but for now it has to be these 3

One that certainly deserves a mention and hasn't got any praise or talk so far , is Cigarini . Always liked him as a player and this season he has really kicked off nicely.

But again , can't be included instead of the afforementioned players , so far.

Very interesting player, he was once so highly rated but he never seemed to get off the ground

Not understanding why Burdisso is in a couple of these XIs...he's barely played and he's looked awful in all, but maybe 2 games he did play.

Honestly don't think any Roma defender is deserving a spot in this team with the defensive record we have.

Of course he hasn't been anything that outstanding so far . However , it shouldn't end up in a collective point of view ; take for example El Sharaawy , Milan sucks these days but he's been magnifiscent so far , aguably one of the best currently.

Though i get it , there are other CBs like Ranocchia or Campagnaro , even Roncaglia , which probably deserve it more , but Burdisso has been solid enough for Roma's troubling defence and the rest didn't have similar issues so far, so , personaly speaking , i chose him because of the difficulty .

It's still very early however , doesn't mean much. Basicaly speaking , if he has 1-2 good games next weeks , you could easily mention him , as it's early.

Have to agree with this. He's only played half the available games of the season, is not a guaranteed starter, has not adapted to Zeman's style yet, and while he has looked good in some, it's not hard to look good with that defense around you... Campagnaro and Ranocchia deserve it more.

I am not sure if Vidal deserves a place in the best X1 so far cuz its been an average season from him in all honesty..There are a no.of midfielders who have performed better than Vidal this season, some of those names have already been mentioned in the thread.

Well if Burdisso better understood the system and applied his combative nature and knowledge of what he already knows about defending, I don't think we'd be conceding as much as we have and then maybe he would be in this side with a shout. Truth be told, he simply doesn't look good in this system though he did well against Palermo admittedly, he was back to being woeful yesterday.

Man just doesn't understand Zeman's tactics and to be absolutely honest, how can any defender when the coach concentrates solely on attacking and abandons any defensive shape or organization? I frankly can't blame him for the lack of comprehension and the poor performances, but at the same time, I must admit and I'm sure he will too that they've been poor. Can't justify his inclusion in this team based on that.

I have to agree that Burdisso doesn't deserve to be in a best XI for the season so far. Don't get me wrong, I really like the guy. Yesterday, at the 90th minute, he was the one showing the most aggressiveness and desire to draw the game leveled. He has that fighting spirit that I love to see in players. But, he has made some mistakes this season, one of which cost us yesterday and I think there are other candidates that deserve a spot ahead of him on that list.

Also, the point about Zeman abandoning the defensive side of the game isn't true, at least not completely. Yes, it's super obvious that he concentrates more on the attacking aspect, but he does always want his back line making certain movements which not all our defenders are used to, one of these being Burdisso. When all our defenders are on the same page, you get a game like Roma-Palermo where they didn't make one mistake and squandered all Palermo's attacks with minimal fuss. However, when they're unsure or lack concentration, which has been more often than not this season, you get some disastrous results. It's a question of mental strength for me. On top of that, we've seen some incredible individual mistakes which I sometimes find difficult to blame Zeman for.

Back to the topic, I like Chinomaster's lineup, though I'm not convinced with Antonelli. I'd probably go for Asamoah instead at LB.

Fair enough then , i'll take your word about Burdisso . I understood he wasn't a definite option when i thought of him anyway. Perhaps i was tricked a bit by the general display at the back . We'll see.

Overall , most names are quite standard so far , no big arguments .

zizzle wrote:the lack of Cassano in this thread is almost offensive

He had a great start no questions asked, i get that , but the other two have been a revelation in Serie A this term . I must confess i thought of Cassano when i was making my lineup in my 1st post, but found difficulties to include him instead of Lamela , El Sharaawy or Jovetic , never mention Cavani , Klose and Milito.

Handanovic

Campagnaro - Barzagli - Chiellini

Cuadrado - Pizzaro - Montolivo - Asamoah

Lamela - Klose/Jovetic/Cavani/cantdecide - El Sharaawy

Handanovic

Campagnaro - Barzagli - Ogbonna

Cuadrado - Pizzaro - Hernanes - Asamoah

Lamela - Cavani/Cassano/Milito - El Sharaawy

There's a reason why Torino conceded only 10 goals this season (only 1 short of Juve) Ogs is currently beasting their defense, hugely underrated imo
