I would go with Mata.

I am of the opinion it will be David Luiz, unless Cahill can improve his game, I can't see him starting therefore I can't see him as captain.

When you have a guy like Terry as your captain, No. No one will fill his shoes.

David Luiz looks like hes the closest though. Mainly because Sideshow Bob has such big feet!

No, Cech is the perfect selection, but it's a matter of how you decide to deal with the Courtois issue.

If it isn't Cech, there is no "perfect" selection in the current squad to be your captain.

José Mourinho prepared to appoint ‘fantastic’ Cesc Fàbregas as next Chelsea captain:
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has boasted Cesc Fabregas' captaincy credentials, and hinted that he may be the next recipient of John Terry's armband
http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/526131/Cesc-Fabregas-Chelsea-Captain-Appointment-Stamford-Bridge-Stars-Update-Latest

"He [Fabregas] is a better guy than I thought."

"He’s a fantastic guy, he’s a fantastic professional."

"Now I understand why at the age of 19 or 20 or 21 he was Arsenal captain."

"When I am the manager at Chelsea the armband will go to another arm that has been in this club for many many years."

"But one thing is [the leader’s] brain needs to be connected with the manager, and his brain is connected to mine during matches."

That fourth line makes me think Bran will get it.

Fabregas would be ok, in 2-3 years. Not soon though.

It was two years ago, would you like me to have said that Fabregas should be the next caption?

Over the last few seaons whenever JT has been out one of Lamps, Drogba or Cech would step in because they all have the traits shed posted earlier. From our current squad id say Cech is the pretty clear cut choice although looking at the longer term i see Ivanovic as a dark horse if he can nail down a starting spot

Dat visionary Proud

Comes down to Cahill and Ivanovic for the captaincy imo

No, I would like you to have seen what was right in front of you - that he was not captain material.

I can empathise:

Shed wrote:A captain is calm, collected, and mature - Luiz is the antithesis of those things
A captain is vocal - Luiz can't even speak fluent English
A captain leads by example - what Luiz does on the pitch is the last thing I'd want the team emulating
A captain, as seen with JT, is an organiser - Luiz is one of the most disorganised people in the team

Funny, I was just reading through a thread where Shed said bringing back Jose would be a mistake Laughing

We all make mistakes, especially when it's looked at years later Laughing
