Chelseas midfield
What do you think of it? world class? do you consider oscar, haz, and mata as midfielders? or do they play further forward and leave mik and ramirez on their own? i have seen like 2 of their games this season so i have no idea.

Re: Chelseas midfield
Classy and the only way is up for them. our attacking band of three are actually very important when it comes to defending, as Oscar has brought in this high pressure mentality Mata, Hazard and Torres now follow him in that respect. It is great to watch.
Mikel and Ramires have been known to bomb forward as well so I would certainly call it a midfielder 5.
Give it a year or two and this midfield will strike fear into other teams. I can assure you that.

Re: Chelseas midfield
Chelsea are certainly playing good football with Mata, Hazard and Oscar.
I think Oscar, Hazard and Mata are midfielders. They aren't really forwards, since they aren't prolific goalscorers. All 3 are good at creating.

Re: Chelseas midfield
Depends how you look at midfield. When I look at midfield I think literally, middle of the field. Thats where Mikel and Ramires play.
Just because those 3 arent forwards so to speak doesnt automatically make them midfielders either if you know what I mean.
Anyway, technicalilty. Those 3 are great and those suggesting Mata should maybe be dropped when they were struggling (which includes me) clearly were wrong and they can all play together.
I have to say though, playing all 3 leaves alot of space further forward and their midfielders have to cover alot of ground to protect a defence that doesnt like dealing with movement behind them.

As I said in another thread, their system is a lot like spain's,just more direct.2 AMs 1 CM.
And yeah the 3 are midfield, cant say a single one of them is a striker/winger.

So oscar has been playing deeper? My question against them, is if they can calm things down when an opponent with quality + pressing tries to overrun them, i dont see anyone of them as an organiser that will get on the ball from deep and dictate. But if oscar can do that then fair play

Re: Chelseas midfield
Yea, saying they dominated every team theyve played against is ridiculous. Shakhtar dominated them, Atletico, Juventus, and Arsenal were all very even games, where if anyone had the edge, it was those 3, not Chelsea. Didnt watch the Tottenham game so cant comment on that.

Arsenal had the edge?
We're in a stage of changing playing style, so we're obviously going to have issues and matches where we struggle to get a grip.
In 2-3 years we'll be untouchable.

Oscar hasn't been playing deeper, they all drop deeper at points but no one can say that one player is playing deeper than the rest.
We do struggle against a pressing side or a team that plays very deep but we can still create. Like I said, give them time to learn how each other plays and we will be lethal.

i like where Chelsea is going. From a mostly physical to a more agile technical side.
It would be interesting how will Di Matteo manage the projecct...

Re: Chelseas midfield
Mikel's a pure DM while Ramires is a B2B.
They don't really have a natural playmaker in the pivot.

Re: Chelseas midfield
Mikel, Oscar, Mata & Hazard are all studs. Ramires continues to improve.
Defensively though, there's still alot of work to be done.
WHAT!???!?!
My head actually snapped back in shock reading that nonsense.

Mata had not returned when we played Athletico and Oscar hadn't even joined the squad. Don't know what you're on aboutForza Rossoneri wrote:or athletico madridMuzza wrote:Diego Armando Maradona wrote:They didnt dominate arsenal iirc

For the last time, Mata & Oscar were NOT available for the Athletico match. We were in transition of playing style and we used Malouda(:killmenow:) in that match.
Dunno what else to tell you.
*And no, Arsenal did NOT have the edge against us. The match was somewhat even in the middle of the park and if anyone had the edge, it was us.

Re: Chelseas midfield
David Luiz looks ridiculously good knocking it around in the centre whenever he goes up.
It's a good midfield but there's a clear issue. No designated distributor. Nonetheless there are a couple patterns beginning to emerge, Oscar seems to be taking some responsibility of getting the ball to Hazzard and Mata in forward areas.
I might be tempted to give Oscar some more space on the left, would make life much simpler for someone like him. Right now he has to drive through the centre which is is more difficult than having a set angle to play it out from.
Hazzard is noticeably not the one you want playing it out from deep, runs himself into traffic and ends us just going down a line.

Re: Chelseas midfield
No disriputor? Play Romeu a few more times and we may see a better functioning midfield... Didn't play well in league cup but the guy hasn't played minutes on the pitch for a long time. More game time, the more you will see of how great his distribution will be...
