Re: Is the standard of refereeing good enough?
my biggest problem is that the referees behind the goals sit on their asses and collect paychecks, they are supposed to be making calls but 90% of the time just let things go
the refs behind the goal should be calling pks, disallowing pks, being the goalline official, calling out players for diving among many other things but instead they do nothing.
what is the purpose then?

challenge system introduced from tennis, trainers decide 3 separate occasions they want to have reviewed again by a third party using several replays from the camera angles available.

The amount of abuse and criticism you get as a referee and hardly ever any praise, while the players around you make in a week what you make in a year from the sport, that does not sound to me like a very enticing career path to take. Right now you need to have a calling, a desire to be a referee, which is fine, of course, but there's no outside factor which would encourage talented people to get into refereeing.

If top quality referees were rewarded with better money it would make sense. Just like lower level footballers earn alot less, if a referee is consistently making good decisions and running games well then they should be rewarded with better salaries.
In the same way Heskey shouldn't be on 12m a year, a poor referee should be getting less than a top referee.
I'm more than happy for referees to be protected but only if they are making consistent good decisions. When you see a referee in charge of your match and already dread the match then you really know that they are not doing their job properly. Not saying that humans don't make mistakes but there are so many problems that just get overlooked and coaches/players get bans for the stupidity of the officials.

Atrocious refereeing in the Getafe-Mallorca match right now. Mallorca down to 10 men for a reason no one knows apart from the referee

lol, just just saw that on replay after i just turned it on
it was a red card from what i saw, although there would have been no complaints if it was a yellow
