Reason why EPL is so popular?

Marketing and Language are just the two components among many which makes it the best league in the world. No one in Asia watches a Stoke vs Bolton game just because it's in the "best league"

Most of you have listed the legit reasons and when you combine all of them then obviously you get a master piece :I'munoriginal:

language ( not all that important tbf because Madrid are the most popular team in Middle East for example )

Simply because its the best marketed league in the world.Period.

Also the entertainment part is far overstated.Other top leagues are just as entertaining if not better.

Disagree. The entertainment in the EPL varies between the table, from top of the table clashes between the top teams, to mid and bottom table scraps between relegation fodder

I doubt even the most hardcore Liga or Serie fan sits down to watch Granada vs Herculese or Palerma vs Siena

Isnt that a consequence of better marketing though ?

For example in Asia there would be exclusive telecast of WBA vs Wolves over some mid-table La Liga or Bundesliga game.That does help tbh.People follow the hype its as simple as that.Also there would also be a ton of pundits that preview such games in detail which also helps tbh.Just saying.

The timing of PL is perfect for Indian fans.Thats the biggest reason why its the most popular league in football in India.

La liga is shown mostly in midnight which makes it much harder to follow.

Timing for EPL sucks for Americans and Australians but EPL have one of the biggest viewership in those countries though

Most games are usually 9 am or later.

Usually shitty games are at 7 am

Also pretty much every 'top' league is aired at shitty timings in Australia if you look at it that way.

Yea the Kick Off time of most PL matches really helps here in South East Asia(9-11pm). While the other leagues are played after midnight, often 3-4am.

Plus they mostly broadcast PL based T.V. shows and of course the matches(Marketing).

2 words: audios and visuals

in the la liga soemtimes you wonder if you are watching the battle of the loud commentators, the cameras are faster than the players, the audio is terrible

Every game is watchable in the PL.
You can sit up till 12am in the night to watch Swansea Wigan and not be disappointed.

Also power is shifting with Liverpool going mediocre and other small teams like Everton and Newcastle coming up.

The top8 is almost unpredictable.

The EPL gets telecasted in India in the evening. This way you can catch every game that is live. La Liga is shit. I dont have the patience to stay up till 2am on a Sunday to watch 2 teams that dominate the league and get obvious results.
La Liga wont get anywhere until they change the timings so that Asia can watch comfortably.

Bundesliga, French Ligue and Serie A are close to nowhere in my country and i think also in Asia.

Actually Bundesliga is slowly building as fanbase in India if am not mistaken.Read somewhere a report saying it is the second watched league in India.

my word. the lower level games are not better in general at all. complete bs fed from english media and taken by EPL fanboys like sheep

with shows like match of the day and all the tv coverage you get so much more tv coverage for the lower level teams than you do in other leagues. so you know more of the players and stuff which makes it more engaging to watch. the football quality is obviously not any better and i won't even go into how stupid the "on their day this team can beat that team" thing is


epl is better in every single way except the actual football, but because of that it's still more than deserved to be called the best league. it's the other leagues faults in a lot of ways. but english is a world wide language which can't be helped

though i do genuinely rate the spanish league lower in terms of exciting low table matches compared to the other leagues. but that's based on not seeing that many. which i'd bet my life on is the case of all these people saying the epl is better in that way. i'll bet my life these people have only seen a handful of lower table games in the other leagues

They redisigned the product to cater to the consumer and then marketed it heavily. Then the infusion of money by rich investors to clubs like Chelsea was heavily publicised due to the heavy marketing already done and the number of viewers dramitically increased.

The current popularity of the league is basically a snowball effect of all the decisions taken by the people in charge starting from 1992. It is one of the perfect case studies of how to promote a brand.
