This is actually a pretty cool thread idea. Its not easy thinking of the best way to have an extra man.

All I know is defensive teams would love this in theory.

Anyway, for Barca I find it very hard.

Defender? Whats the point, too many times we have the two CB's was time on the ball because the opponant has dropped deep into their own half. Though I guess at the start of games where we are most vunerable it would help having an extra man.

Midfield is already crowded enough with Messi dropping in and Busquets holding. We have seen a couple of times already were introducing another mid made it more difficult because Xavi and Iniesta have pricise roles and adding another body only clogs up the space and makes it harder for them to movee.

In attack, sticking someone in front of Messi directly doesnt help him. It makes him dropping deep less effective. Though, its still a better option than midfield.

So either at the back or up front.

I will go with.

Dani, I rather another defender tbh especially with the defense we have though an extra attacker wouldn't do us any harm as Messi drops deep more than usual.

Yeah, but if we have another defender it will at times be a total waste.

In about 7 out of 10 games, we would have 3 men standing on the half way line marking 1 striker while Xavi, Iniesta and Messi circulate the ball outside the opponants penalty box.

We would have to face teams with an extra body behind the ball, its already difficult enough as it is.


Having an extra man would actually hurt us more than it would help as the other team would just get an extra body to defend with while we get very little out of it.

My choice would be to mix the 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1

I'd either add another DM/CM to 4231, or add a CAM to a 433

4-3-3-1 finally our midfield problems are solved without sacrificing our finishing.

We would just play an extra CB, allowing Pique to play sweeper permanently (although I'm not sure how this would affect Busi's role).

The pitch is too small for 12 players per team. Bus parking would become an issue. I'd rather reduce the overall number of players to 10 per team. That would be fun
Teams wouldn't be able to cover all the space for 90 minutes. They'd have to set up priorities etc. Forwards would get more touches...

On topic, my 12th man would go into the midfield 9 out of 10 times if I have an AM somewhere. If my teams plays without I'd put an extra forward in the line.
