Champions league Squad.

According to Champions leagues rules, teams are allowed to register maximum of 25 players but this must include 4 (Home Grown player) and 8 (National grown player), however teams do not need to register players that played for the club for nothing less than 2years but are still under 21, as a result players like Jack Wilshere were left out but will still be eligible to play.

What is really surprising this year, is that Manchester City were able to register 41 players, while Madrid and Arsenal could only register 25 each, Bayern Munich and Barcelona 31.

Maybe Man City's are homegrown?

The other question is - how many of these homegrown youngsters will actually get the chance to play? Group D will not allow any slip-up.

Contrary to Chelsea, Schalke 04 could only register 5 defenders, Including fullbacks and Central Back.


There is a team with only 2 goalkeeper but can't remember.

Also, why did some teams submit less than 25 players....? I mean why didn't they just throw anyone in....?

Cluj might face some tough times with only 21 registered players.

Arsenal have OX and Cazorla who can play there as well, they have a very versatile midfield so i wouldn't worry if i were them

wow schalke only 5 defenders?? man they will be very thin come the competition, considering its easier to be suspended here than in the league were you need 5 yellows before you can get suspended

Arsenal will not get far with that Midfield, neither will Schalke with that defence but most of Schalke Midfielders can also play as Defender, so I guess that's the reason why.


It was Celtic who registered just 2 Goalkeepers, Fraser Forster and Łukasz Załuska


Why do they allow teams like Celtic, Cluj, Nordsjælland etc to compete in this competition...? More spot should be awarded to Seria A, Portugal league and Ligue 1

Because it is the Champions League and they are the champions of their respective leagues?

Cluj had to play 4 games in the play-offs to win their place in UCL.They won all of them.They had to compete with Slovan Liberec and FC Basel.They really deserve their place in UCL.

Celtic is a great team.They have some of the most amazing fans in the world.

Maybe Nordsjælland is a bit unfair to be in UCL.

BTW, before last year's group stage people complained about APOEL and FC Basel, too. I think they did a great job against all odds, though.

I am pretty sure Tottenham and Inter will do better job.

Uefa should think about expanding the competition, like they expanded European Cup(National teams)

UEFA did sort of expand the competition (in Europe) with the Europa league...

But i like having the smaller clubs in, even if its not as a higher quality i like supporting the under dog!

the point of the competition is having teams from different countries competing against each other

it was only for champions in the 1st place, after including non-champions in it now you wanna exlude several champions from it for being "weak" ?

Yeh the champions of lesser known leagues should stay in the CL imo.

Well, the not so tough competition Basel did defeat Bayern in the first leg of the last 16 after kicking out Manchester United. Too bad that they couldn't keep it up in the second leg. ^^

I get your point, but that was a weakened United and Bayern losing to Basel was a nothing but a mistake that will never repeats it's self, the chances are comparable to winning the lottery chances.

Man Utd had to go through vs Basel.
