Cruyff- “The problem with two holding midfielders is quite simple, but somehow many coaches don’t see it. The build up happens to slow. Holding midfielders always need that extra touch. Always need to have a look when they have the ball already. That takes time away. The opponent can position themselves to stop the killer pass and the forwards are all marked. Plus, having two holding midfielders means there is one less creative playmaker. It’s a double edged sword.”

Bro I didn't even look at this thread to know you wrote that. I was just reading through articles and I realised that one of the authors were Kieran Sobels and I realised that name sounded familiar. Turned out I was listening through a podcast of yours at the same time and that name popped up, so I replied

Barca is reportedly working out a salary with Javi Martinez. If true, the strategy seems to be to offer him a lucrative deal and then have him force his way out ala Cesc.

One of the problems is that the tax rate is about 10 percentage points higher in Catalunya than the Basque Country. So if Javi were offered the same amount of money net today, he would actually make less at Barca. So Barca are going to have to give him a lucrative deal enough to move, and make up for this tax gap.

Oh man why are we going for Javi. It doesn't make any sense to me. I think Tito doesn't really want us to play with any defenders. Just a team of midfielders and fullbacks who can attack more than they can defend. Oh, and Messi.

If the deal will come through then Im going to watch barca games more frequently :p.

Honestly I really like Martinez, I really do, he's a fantastic young player.

That's another defender out of the equation then.

Contracts mean nothing.

Not that we are getting Koscienly, or even trying, but him signing a deal means very little.

Or maybe hes just forcing clubs to bid higher. Some of the player do that to the clubs that they sign an extension of a contract and few days later they move to another club. Club whoever the player signed an extension recevies more money from players contracts.

Apparently Tito rejected Arsenal deal for Afellay... Also we rejected a deal with AC Milan over Sanchez. I think they were wanting a loan deal for him...

We just signed Sergio Araujo from Boca for 2 years with option to buy for the B team.

I have got a feeling that we will have a dig for Martinez and if he doesn't come we will be relying on Barta and Fontas to do the back up. Hopefully these two players start playing more regularly for us in preseason (Fontas is still yet to get the clear), gaining confidence into the season. I seriously hope to get a CB and it would stupid not to... Martinez wasn't my first choice defender though if we get him, Im happy because we have someone who has experience there (little though better none) and he has kept out good players when playing CB with Bilbao. Martinez is better than relying on B team... For sure, others my disagree.
