Re: The Official Arsenal Summer Transfers/Rumours Thread
We would have competition in the midfield if these players actually stayed fit, but they can't. As it stands, Song and Arteta are our only consistent midfielders; both in how they perform and how long they can stay fit. Ramsey can stay fit but lacks the consistency at this moment in time. Coquelin is young; big talent, but not someone we should be relying on.
When you throw in Wilshere, Rosicky and Diaby, our midfield has depth and quality, but the latter two have been injury prone for a while, which resulted in Wilshere playing more than he had to and him picking him a long term injury as a result.
Some of Wenger's comments do worry me:
“The situation is not the same as last season,” he said. “We have a squad that is solid and we have bought two strikers.
“Last year we lost not only two players in the transfer market, but players through injury in pre-season. We lost Abou Diaby and Jack Wilshere, and also Rosicky at the start of the season. That was not predictable.
“Last year's situation was difficult for us through injuries, not only the transfer market. I knew Fabregas would go, but we lost Wilshere, Diaby and Rosicky on top of that. It was too difficult.”
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/-the-situation-is-not-the-same-as-last-year-
How was the situation "not predictable"? Diaby has been in-and-out the side thanks to injuries since 2007. Rosicky, since coming back from his year-and-a-half long absence, has consistently picked up niggly injuries. And Wilshere has played 49 games as a 18 year old.
I know he can't say much to the contrary but this image of us being prepared to rest on our laurels really doesn't instil a lot of confidence in me. Wenger can be a genius in his decision making but it is really frustrating when he seems prepared to make gambles on things that will most likely go against him and his plans.

We dont have any competition in midfield. Tired of Wenger talking big chances, we need a top player in midfield.
we didn't have arteta, song, wilshere or diaby for that game

I know we did not have any of them, Wenger said last year, "I have looked around the league and our team is as good as any other team in EPL".
I am not doubting our players and If all of them stay healthy we will have one of the best midfield in EPL but with our luck that never is the case.

‘No, we wait for Diaby and Wilshere. We are not short if they are coming back. If we have setbacks, it could be different.’ On Cazorla, he was far more sly. ‘I don’t know this guy,’ he grinned.

Wenger: “Wilshere is still in the gym. Any player still in the gym in July is not on the pitch in August, that is for sure."

Re: The Official Arsenal Summer Transfers/Rumours Thread
I think what Wenger is saying if Diaby can stay healthy we will only sign Cazorla and if Diaby breaks down again we will sign Cazorla and M'vila.
I like the sounds of that, we cant lose either way we win, I hope that is what he means

Re: The Official Arsenal Summer Transfers/Rumours Thread
Wenger's famous grin and rejecting of a story....Cazorla, Malaga and Arsenal in negotiations, this is clear.
Re: The Official Arsenal Summer Transfers/Rumours Thread

@YoungGunsBlog: Safe to say M'Vila deal is officially dead. No contact for months. No bid. Back in training at Rennes. Club will now accept £12m.

Re: The Official Arsenal Summer Transfers/Rumours Thread
Also about this:
Really hope it's just his usual play-game with media and he isn't serious about not getting a DM this summer.
Does Arsene realize that we don't have ONE defensive midfielder in our team? Frimpong aside who isn't really a defensive midfielder as he likes to go forward a lot we don't have a single DM here. How are we not short in defensive midfielders?Wenger wrote:“In defensive midfielders and box-to-box players we are not short if they are all coming back. If we have setbacks in pre-season it could be different.”

I think its not in Wengers game to play the orthodox defensive midfielder who simply stays back and defend.. I think it will be the dynamic Coquelin or the calm and composed Arteta who will play the role...

We concede almost 50 goals per season, that's too much mate. And it's not because our keeper or our back 4 are crap... it's because they don't get protection at all. We expect someone like Song to do that but he plays higher on the pitch than Arteta for example
The last time Arsenal won something significant was when Arsene played with a DM. I think that tells you alot.

Conceding close to 20 goals in the first few games did not help and losing all our fullbacks made things worse.
I do agree with what you saying our back 4 did not get protection and if it was not for Koscielny one man army we could have conceded even more goals.
