I'm happy we aren't signing Hazard.

Give it one bad season from Chelsea and he will ask to join Barca/Madrid guaranteed.

EDEN HAZARD has agreed to join Chelsea in a £36m deal after snubbing Manchester rivals City and United. (source: daily star)

The Lille and Belgium winger is understood to have agreed a five-year-deal at Stamford Bridge worth £140,000 a week.

In a bizarre piece of showboating Hazard said he would reveal which of the three Premier League club he was joining yesterday.

And shortly before 9pm he finally tweeted: “I’ve chosen the Champions League winners.”

Hazard, 21, is currently with the Belgium squad ahead of their international friendly against England at Wembley this weekend.

He will complete his transfer when he arrives in London.

“It’s a good choice from Eden,” said Fulham’s Belgian striker Mousa Dembele.

“He has the quality to succeed in every competition in Europe but the English competition is the best in the world so it will be good for his development.

“Eden is quite small, but in the last couple of years more small players have arrived in the Premier League like Silva, Mata and before that Modric – and Hazard can certainly be like them.

“I think he will need a little time to adapt but it won’t take long.’’

It is understood Hazard had been all set to join Roberto Mancini’s men following extensive talks with the Premier League champions.

But Mancini was unable to guarantee Hazard regular first-team football and the highly-rated star was concerned about his lack of first-team chances at the Etihad Stadium.
Having missed out on Hazard, Mancini will now step up his bid to sign Arsenal’s Robin van Persie.

Hazard also spoke to Manchester United before the end of the season, but when they were unable to match his wage demands, Chelsea stepped up their pursuit of him.

The London club’s stunning European Cup triumph over Bayern Munich meant they could also guarantee him Champions League football next season.

Hazard admitted after his final game for Lille that Chelsea’s win in Munich forced him to reconsider his future.

The Ligue 1 Player of the Year finally opted to join Chelsea after owner Roman Abramovich offered him a bigger deal and told him he was about to fund a major, multimillion pound overhaul of the squad.

As proof of that, Chelsea are also closing in on Porto’s star Brazil striker Hulk in a £30m deal.Hulk, who scored 21 goals this season to fire Porto to their second successive league title, has been identified as a replacement for Didier Drogba.

Blues goalkeeper Petr Cech last night signed a new and improved four-year deal that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2016.

Nope. Selling RvP would be the dumbest thing to do on so many levels that I don't even want to get started on it!

Anyway, although its CRAZY to pay 140k p/w for a 21 year old, you chaps can afford it so good on you. If you tie up Hulk too, then I think you will be in a great position to challenge again next season, though I am yet to be convinced of how good your midfield would be next season. I'll make a squad comparison thread in August before the season kicks off - hope you can come back with some comments then! Thumbs up

Tbf, its £100k per week. Not £140. I saw another paper reporting £170k. These journalists can get silly at times just to convince the public that we spend bucket loads.

Btw, M'Villa and Song would be one farking scary double pivot if Wenger could pull it off.

170k? Mother of .. LOL!

But that is still roughly double of what we would pay for a 21 year old. Aargh. I wish our commercial team would pull some deals which would drive up revenues. But that would depend on on-field success, which would depend on quality players, which would need the money, which would, erm, come from commercial revenues. Sonnabitch recursive problem this is. Unless AW puts on his magic hat again. And some players really step up. Anyway, way off topic here.

I have always doubted M'Vila deal tbh. We have Le Coq, who is as good if not better, just less experienced. And I doubt the Capoue deal cause we already have Frimpong. No doubting these two, but the problem is they are inexperienced relatively. And the question is, would the board spend a cool 15-20 million quid to buy young players with a bit more experience and kill off the chances for two other players with almost identical skill sets. I don't see that happening.

What we really need is a player in midfield who can rotate with Rosicky. And an experienced midfielder to rotate with Arteta, since Jack will only be coming back from a looonng injury and I would be cautious with how much he (or Frimpong for that matter) plays. This second problem could be addressed by Lansbury.

What else we need would depend largely on contract situations of Song, Theo and RvP. Unless that is sorted, there isn't much to do but wait. And hope, that its not deja vu last summer.

Seriously though, I didn't think we would be signing him, so oh well. I think there are other positions that could use strengthening more so than where he would play anyway.

The Guardian are reporting that Chelsea have agreed a £38mil fee with Porto for Hulk, and that personal terms will now be negotiated.

And some people actually believe we can match that kind of spending power.

Maybe one player. But that's about it.

I was referring more to Chelsea spending £70mil to get Hazard and Hulk, which is something we just can't do without selling a few players first. Even then, when you factor in everything else it's a stretch.

No we cant it seems, we have 2 billionaire owners for no damn reason. Its against the rules if the owners spend money only way we will spend is if we sell our best players every year.

Alisher Usmanov is only worth estimated at US$18.1 and he just made another Billion from face book. :coffee:

Actual release clause was £48m, the Guardian report.
