How much possession will Italy have against Spain?

I can honestly see Spain getting the relatively low 55% against them. Then again if VDB insists on playing 6 midfielders then that might be a lot higher, but I think Italy will give them much more fight for possession than any other team so far.

For me, if Barca play the 6 mids then we should see them having around 68-72% possession though with a forward in Pedro and a nine in Torres or Llorente, we see possession drop down to around 58-65%.

I'm pretty sure Spain average the most possession in the tournament. And possession does matter, as these are both possession football teams. The team with less possession will have to work the hardest and will have less chances. Since neither of them is a counter-attacking side, the midfield battle will be all the more important due to this reason.

Italia isnt a possession team nor is it an attacking team.

It is a balanced team with their Defensive game being the crucial element.

So far in the tournament they've experienced as many games being in possession than outside it (against England, Croatia and Ireland they had significantly more, against Germany and Spain less) but I'd argue that with a midfield based entirely on Juventus, which is a possession team, they are far more comfortable and effective being in it. Being a possession team doesn't mean that you can't play without it or that it makes you attacking, only that that is the preferred means through which you express your footballing ideas.

It depends though. If Spain press like they've never done before and keep the ball, Italy could end with 35% possession.
