Not really what I'm saying, I'm just saying that a big club like Real Madrid doesn't settle with scrubs, it settles with WC players like CR, Özil and Xabi. Usually the players within that club are very talented and some WC.

Considiring Chiellini is "WC", I don't think it's stupid to say Pepe is top 5.

Chiellini is much better than Pepe. Pepe's a good defender but he's been overrated in this thread.

Bruno Alves has done next to nothing in the Portuguese defense, he's their weak link in my opinion. He's slow and his distribution from the back is just horrible, Pepe has to do the job of two defenders in every match, which is probably why he's getting a lot of credits for his performances.

According to some stats on twitter, Alves has made just 1 tackle at Euro 2012 despite playing all 360 minutes.

TBH anyone who has watched the games and is neutral to it knows Pepe has been the MUCH better CB compared to Alves. Not that Alves was bad, it's just Pepe has been brilliant.

People are talking about Bruno Alves bad passing, which is at 71%..Pepe's is only at 74%. Barely a difference.

Bruno Alves hasnt made many tackles..well duh...Portugal are playing with 3 men protecting the back 4. The more aggressive Pepe is first out from the back usually..so obviously Bruno Alves is going to attempt and make less tackles. He hasnt been beaten off the dribble much either which again points to that fact.

I have heard already Coentrao is leaving too muchspace (not true) and now Bruno Alves is the weak link...what are we getting at here, Pepe is single handidly keeping the defence together?

Watching the games, that isnt the impression at all. Its clearly a team thing, everyone is working as a unit very well.

Well it doesn't matter frankly. Even the best slip up every now and then. I mean we all saw Pepe's slip with Bendtner, Chiellini's slip with Madzukic or even Puyol who was beaten by Ronnie in the the Barca vs RM game.

Coentrao was pretty great, as well. One of the top 3 performers for Portugal.

He can be proud, he had one of the best games of his life.

Pepe's best ever performance came in Camp Nou vs. Barca (in our 1-0 win) in 07-08 season under Bernd Schuster, and I think today he might just have equaled that performance.

Khedira was MOTM, but Pepe had a good game - he's a ticking bomb wouldn't take him to my team.
