Has always been. Unfortunately he has always been remembered for what he did nearly a decade ago. He has always been the best defender at Madrid and every season he is supposed to drop off but like Ibra said "he is only getting started"

The guy was always a top class defender. Played like a boss at this EURO.

Since the beginning he was 5x times the defender Sergio Ramos is for Real Madrid. The guy still has a problem with the discipline and likes to simulate a lot and act hysterical when he does it (recently).

Not a fan of him, I even think his attitude on the pitch is sometimes a joke. This tournament he acted a little bit different, but the past can't be forgotten.

Some people choose to like him and consider him a good defender, some choose to believe the opposite. Things like this happen all the time.

He used to be our fastest player after Robben, and I think his speed has declined significantly since then. He's still fast enough to keep up with most players, though. Pepe is a fighter. It's easy to like him when he's playing well for your team, but it's even easier to dislike him when he does irrational things that later prove to be decisive in a title challenging campaign.

You can, to some extent, defend his antics by pointing towards his cynical playing style actually benefitting his team through instigating frustration in opponent players, but it's convenient to forget that he has a tendency to frustrate himself in the process, and that's proven costly for Real Madrid in the past. I'm very happy that's he's finally managed to control his aggression over a significant time span, and he's become a far more reliable player as a result of it. It's just unfortunate that it took him so long to mature. To be honest, I'm not fully convinced that he'll ever mature enough to realize his full potential.

He was always very solid defender the problem was his aggressiveness. When he found ways of controlling it and defending without half murdering people he has become one of the top CBs in world.
