I agree that Pepe has been the best CB in the Euros. But for Madrid this season he wasn't even the best CB on his own team. I'm not saying Pepe was bad for Madrid, but he made a lot of mindless errors.

He wasn't at fault for Bendtner's header. The cross was sensational there was absolutely nothing he could do about it. Apart from that I can't remember any other goal he was at fault for.

The guy has made goal saving clearance/challenge multiple times, game after game. Both Coentrao and Perreira have had great tournaments and Alves has been solid but because of Nani & Cristiano's unwillingness to track back, Alves's lack of pace & Portugal's general tactics of allowing teams the majority of the ball and hitting them on the counter they've been exposed at times yet Pepe has been a lion at the back. Dealt with pretty much everything so far.

Same Kompany who got terribly exposed outside England? Is easily the best defender in England atm but he was underwhelming in the Europa/Champions League.

Great player but Pepe easily had the much better all round season. He's been immense at the back all year long despite not having any great defenders around him aside from maybe Khedira. Ramos and Marcelo are both extremely error prone. Alonso can't defend and Godbeloa despite the nickname is the definition of "meh".

Mourinho has done wonders for him over the past 2 years. And his game against Barca at the Nou Camp to clinch the title was in my opinion one of the greatest individual defensive performances of the past 10 years. Madrid weren't even parking the bus in that match either.

He's a good player, but not the best in Europe. I'm tired of everyone always overrating RM players. Just because someone plays for them, they are automatically the greatest bestest player in the universe....

Arq, spot on about Bruno Alves. But you see my friend, he doesn't play for Real Madrid....so he basically doesn't exist. Pepe commands the entire back four without the help of anyone.

so please, this defender has given away 1 foul this tournament and has come up against the likes of Denmark, Germany and Netherlands, all who have flair players...
he has easily been one of the best CBs in the Euros alongside Hummels

Nice to see Pepe getting the appreciation he deserves, he's a terrific defender massive in the air and fantastic on the ground, very few forwards can beat him for pace.

He has a MOTM award, scored a goal and nearly had another against Germany, best centre-back in the competition for me.

Not really what I'm saying, I'm just saying that a big club like Real Madrid doesn't settle with scrubs, it settles with WC players like CR, Özil and Xabi. Usually the players within that club are very talented and some WC.

Considiring Chiellini is "WC", I don't think it's stupid to say Pepe is top 5.

And actually, Dani Alves passing accuracy is up around 86%, which you will find for something who has that many touches that high up the pitch and makes that many assist passes/crosses is pretty damn good.

I didnt say he was bad at all, in fact I said he has been very good. Stop crying.

Just because I dont cosign to the theory he is suddenly the best CB in the world doesnt mean I said he bad.

If Pepe wasn't so agressive, he'd not only be the best CB in the world, but one of the best of all time. He's simply amazing. On his day he stops everything.

It's a pity he can't control himself sometimes, I doubt it's on purpose, he really can't control himself, it only hurts him and his team when he gets too much into it so it'd be stupid if he does that stuff on purpose.

coentrao has been leaving too much of space for the right wingers to exploit, even the hapless czech attack created chance after chance from the right flank, plus ronaldo isnt the greatest at tracking back.. bruno alves is still good but for me at least he isnt at his porto level of 08-09 , not really world class..

He has been very good but in the Czech game he was poor.

Portugal defense has been superb, Pepe has played his role but give credit to Coentrao, Alves, and Pereira who all have been really good. Also their midfield has worked really hard on the defensive side.

Besides, anytime I seen him misplass a pass is when he is trying long balls out the flanks to start direct counters. Its Portugals gameplan if you havent noticed.

Sometimes they work, sometimes they dont, thats the nature of the long pass.
