According to some journalists England will start with the same team from the last match.

Which is the wrong decision, Welbeck won't see the ball.

I think one would argue that Italy's brand of football has been far entertaining than some of the other 'Top' teams.

No? Difference is, no-one here is claiming England are going to "gang bang" Italy or "tear them apart"juveman17 wrote:and England have?
I haven't seen anything from Italy to suggest they're going to steamroll England. Wouldn't be surprised if England scored the first goal (then went on to concede three)

Of course he will it'll just be a question of how good he is at making the most out of less touches.
He's a great player Welbeck I wouldn't be surprised to see him do well.

Three on one is technically a gang bang to be fair.

Re: Quarter final: England vs Italy discussion
England are well equipped to beat Italy, infact I pretty much expect them to win. I want Italy in the semi's apart from pirlo they are pretty much pushovers, england will be tough opposition for any team.
Italy struggled hard vs Croatia, I cant see them beating this england side.

Bonucci's chance to show he's truly arrived on the world stage
(A bit similar to when Chiellini announced his arrival as top CB in Europe 4 years ago)

If Young has a good game England will have a great chance to win, if not then Italy have a great chance instead.

Hopefully Italy play 4312 so Fishcott and Sexlade can rape, pillage, and plunder

Re: Quarter final: England vs Italy discussion
A diamond in midfield can still defend against good wingers if they keep formation and lean from flank to flank.

The ball moves faster than the player" - Confuscious
If England switch from flank to flank quickly the diamond will never be able to keep up with Walcott or Oxlade
Milner and Young are another story, however

Re: Quarter final: England vs Italy discussion
4312 diamond always have problem with wide players and wing backs. Midfielders sliding from flank to flank isnt always possible which is that formations weakness.Especially on fast counters with wing back going forward they can easily create 2 vs 1 on wings.
also what bhends said "ball moves faster than the players '' . one diagonal ball to the overlapping wing back and we got a nice situation to deal with.

Re: Quarter final: England vs Italy discussion
Yes but England's right winger will be Milner and he'll be sticking close to an Italian player. Rooney as well.Ashley Cole hasn't shown signs that he'll be an attacking outlet in this tournament.
Realistically Italy may only have to deal with two wide players, Johnson and Young.

Young to confuse Italy by outdiving their entire starting 11. Including Buffon

Re: Quarter final: England vs Italy discussion
Not surprising that we've gone with the same team. Milner is horrible but Walcott really is better as an impact player. Chamberlain simply isn't ready to start games like this. Milner can, at least, tuck in and become an extra man in the centre for us.
Inevitably, the game plan will be to keep it 0-0 for 70 minutes or so then bring on the speedy players and expose any tiredness and subsequent gaps in the Italian side.

Which is not a bad game plan at all, all things considered.

Re: Quarter final: England vs Italy discussion
I'm confident that Abate will keep Young quiet, though things look *bleep* up on the other flank
