Malta is an excolony of Britain. Many people there is from english descent.

On the other hand, Malta is closest to Italy and Italy has currently a big influence on Malta. Italian is the most spoken foreign language (after english of course) and most football fans follow Italian clubs.

Personally think we've got stronger with each game , bar a couple of defensive errors against Sweden. John Terry and Joleon Lescott seem to be settling into playing with each other and whilst Rooney wasn't unbelievable on his return he seemed to give everyone a lift. Just need Ashley Young to sort himself out and Hodgson to drop Milner and we can definitely make the semis.

free_cat certainly does, I know there are others in Catalonia that share his sentiment...don't have any definitive numbers on how many do/don't though

Well, there are two ways to approach this question. Footbalistically, England and Italy make up almost the.entire football fanbase here, and we are very passionate about football. That bit is relatively simple.

Now, there's also another side to it. Freecat's information is mostly correct ( however England supporters have the upper hand). Of course Italy is our closest neighbour so understandably throughout our history we took after their culture. However then the English arrived and they attempted to instill there own culture, an ambition which they largely failed. Up tie secondworld war the conflict between the two languages Italian and English was a big political question. This.ended when we fought against Italy in the war, but the Italian culture remains, and so this.football match has huge significance.

I am a Spain supporter and am not even as passionate about foreign NTs as some of my compatriots, but I still.feel closer to Italy than England, for example. I hope this brief explanation helped answer your question. This is why i asked where the OP was.from, his situation seems a bit similar yet different to ours. By the way, the.poster essentially said 'Dont keep calm, Italians vs english!' If I get some interesting pictures on Sunday, I will try to.upload them.
