Re: Olivier Giroud
Wenger confirms Giroud's signed a new deal.
And I wouldn't say that top clubs are lining up for him but there's been interest from Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Sevilla, Valencia etc. Those are very good sides so there's no need to exaggerate like that.

Not that its really going to make too much difference. Destined for standard 2nd place and R16 exit anyway.

since he was supposed to be out until the next year, I'd rather say it would've been lolworthy if you had given the space to an injured playeer instead of registering someone you could hope to use.
As for the R16, with all the unintentional jinxing going on here I'm actually shitting my pants right now at the prospect of having to face you again.

Re: Olivier Giroud
You do know jinxception? Counterjinxing only works if it isn't spotted. Else the counterjinx gets jinxed - which shouldn't be spotted (which I have made too obvious to spot here) and hence requires a non-obvious counter to the jinx which jinxed the original counterjinx attempt.
I have way too much time to think about this

Re: Olivier Giroud
As well as his immense work rate and ambition to improve - Giroud's intelligence (in the footballing sense) is something which is too often underestimated.

BUMP
19th player to reach a century of goals for The Guns
12th fastest overall to reach that century
Reached it faster than "world class" RVP (133 games vs 134)

Hope he retires at the club. Will definitely garner 'club legend' status if he does so.

Re: Olivier Giroud
An excellent servant to the club, and he's made his impact on the game during this decade--Montpellier championship, hundred (plus) goals for Arsenal, a Puskas award. Given his age, and the fact that there is now Lacazette in the squad, Giroud has effectively taken on the role a lot of us thought he was suited for originally: that really good, effective rotation/plan B/super-sub forward we could have used when RvP was the one the rest of the squad leaned on.
I really wouldn't mind seeing him stay a few more years either, at this point. What's he gonna do, lose his speed?

Re: Olivier Giroud
He's gotten more and more recognition from fans as pressure on him has decreased.
We gave him the likes of Chamakh, Sanogo, Bendtner and the perennially injured Welbeck to offer him competition and relief and he struggled to carry the starting berth. He's become even more effective since Alexis and Lacazette starting taking his time away and pushing him to shine in those moments where he comes on in clutch situations or even vs tired defenses.
Would love to see him retire with this role. As Chumlum noted, he's not going to decline in any appreciable way given that his best attributes are those that remain with players like him well into their 30s.
Only question is whether he's content with that and how it affects his future with France. He's a solid starter but will that be the case for the foreseeable future if he can't command regular minutes at Arsenal?
Granted, he's 31 and his international career isn't going to be as long as his club career but also see age argument above.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Will be really sad to see him go. Hope he doesnt get booed when he returns to the emirates.
We will now have 3 mutually liked players between chelsea and us (assuming they will like Oli)
- Cech
- Petit
- Giroud
Btw 100+ goals for Arsenal, with assists in tournament winning goals warrants a legend status for me. Will you guys remember Olivier Giroud in a positive light from here on?

Re: Olivier Giroud
Love the guy. No hard feelings that he chose Chelsea. Not sure if he'll be viewed as a legend but he certainly made his mark with us. Lots of great memories and I wish him all the best with the France National Team.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Will always like him. Seems like he genuinely loved Arsenal too. Wish we sold him abroad but no hard feelings either way.
