What's that, 4 goals and an assist in the last 3 games?
I love it when this thread is nice and quiet.

+1
thats the issues with Arsenal fans, quick to criticize when things are not going well but slow to congratulate when a player does well. Giroud is not world class but he is all we got, he has 18 this season which is good. Lets get behind the guy, hopefully he will perform well and score a few more.

Re: Olivier Giroud
I'll genuinely applaud him once he does this when it matters. Like in the Semi Final of the FA Cup. Or against Bayern this tuesday. Or against City, Chelsea, Everton and Spurs games.
Not sarcastic, just my issue with him.

Re: Olivier Giroud
well done, he came on and scored two goals against a tired everton side after sanogo did all the running for 60mins, i give him credit. but now he needs to be consistent and score against teams that are more committed defensively than everton was today.

Re: Olivier Giroud
If only Giroud was that clinical all season, but we should celebrate his goals, who knows when he would score again this year? still dreadful to watch.
Giroud has proven what most of us think and that is Giroud not really good enough to start, but can score off the bench against certain teams. His place in on the bench, its where he belongs and he proved it today.

That literally makes no sense after today. If anything, it shows Sanogo is not ready to even be spoken of in the same light as Giroud and that his critics are premature and rash.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Sanogo ran? I thought he was mostly fluffing passes and having no clue about how to make a proper run... which is typical of him. Thankfully, since he doesn't get open that often to take a proper shot, Arsenal fans are spared his comical finishing.REWB wrote:well done, he came on and scored two goals against a tired everton side after sanogo did all the running for 60mins, i give him credit. but now he needs to be consistent and score against teams that are more committed defensively than everton was today.
Some said that Adebayor was like this when he first came to Arsenal. Personally, i can't believe it

Re: Olivier Giroud
Not saying Sanogo will improve like Adebayor but Adebayor was just as bad in his first year here, he couldn't hit the target to save his life, showed poor technique and link up play but good movement, strength and work rate (just like Sanogo so far).
I can definitely see where the comparisons come from.

I dont mind also, but shouldn't we wait til he comes and actually plays few games before make a contract offer?
Giroud is not leaving us and wants to stay here so we should not rush things.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Right decision, with Welbeck,Sanogo and Akpom all still developing we need to keep our best centre forward.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Nothing wrong with handing him the deal while injured if we know he's progressing well enough to be the same player and continue to develop.
Next up Theo according to Jeremy Wilson.
Arteta also being offered a one-year deal, which I'm all for so long as we target and sign an actual DM too. It's not Arteta at all that a lot of Arsenal fans are angry with, it's the lack of DM that is forcing him to play against sides that expose him.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Only at Arsenal we sign players to long contract while injured, the guy is 28 who knows with our medical team if he would come back this year.
No top team would take Giroud and no mid table team could afford his wages, why should we gamble on him?
Arsenal is like a race car which is using last years technology because its cheaper and willing to gamble on it against the best.

A number of top teams would take him for the right price, he is hardly over-paid.

Re: Olivier Giroud
l have seen no evidence to suggest in recent history that Arsenal operates in the fashion that move saved is spent elsewhere. lf we get a good deal on a player, or transfer fee, leaves us more money to spend else where, or selling a player for a large sum, means that we'll then buy someone else in return.
So with that said, it doesn't really matter what we pay Giroud. He has done a job for us and deserves to be on the team. l'm sure the medical staff believes he will recover and be back to normal when he's fit so its not really a risk in that regard.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Good news although really expected, he can't find a better club for him and we'd have a hard time to find a good striker who is as good as Giroud off the bench.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Wenger confirms Giroud's signed a new deal.
And I wouldn't say that top clubs are lining up for him but there's been interest from Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Sevilla, Valencia etc. Those are very good sides so there's no need to exaggerate like that.
